Arndt, Paul Hayes KINDERHOOK Paul Hayes Arndt, 86, of Kinderhook died suddenly on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson. Born on August 18, 1932, in Brooklyn, he was the fifth child and third son of the late Herbert L. and Rose M. (Hayes) Arndt. He grew up in the Parkchester section of the Bronx and graduated from Manhattan Preparatory High School High School in Riverdale (Bronx) in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S.M.C. Reserves soon thereafter, was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California, and received his honorable discharge at the rank of corporal. While later employed at Container Laboratories, Inc. in Manhattan, he met his future wife Isabel(la). The couple married in 1954 and moved Upstate where he was attending college. He graduated in 1957 from the SUNY College of Forestry and Syracuse University with a B.S. in landscape architecture. Upon graduation, he was employed by the N.Y.S. Office of General Services in Albany. In 1966, he moved to the State University Construction Fund where he served as its deputy manager of site planning throughout the program's infancy. He later worked as a facility planner for then-Governor Rockefeller's drug enforcement program. Mr. Arndt retired from the State in the early 1990s and in later years worked as a landscape architect and site planning consultant. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and maintained interests in landscaping and gardening, nature, history, antiques, and woodworking. He was a devoted husband to Isabella, his wife of 62 years. A resident of Kinderhook for almost 50 years, he was a parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie. He was predeceased by his wife Isabella A. (Lombardo) Arndt; brothers, Herbert L. Arndt Jr. and Frederick D. Arndt; and siblings in infancy, Gerald M. and Barbara M. Arndt. He is survived by his five children, Curtis P. Arndt (Nancy) of Carlsbad, Calif., Keith G. Arndt (Rowena) of Rhinebeck, Elise A. Eddy (Rob) of Knoxville, Tenn., Christopher M. Arndt of Albany, and Michael P. Arndt of New York, N.Y.; his two sisters, Caroline R. Heart of Arlington Heights, Ill. and Jeannette M. Cuomo of Peoria, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Annabella J. Lombardo of Monroe Township, N.J. and Maria P. Travia of Bartlett, Ill.; his beloved grandchildren, Alexander H. Arndt, Olivia R. Eddy, and Grace K. Eddy; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 26, in St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie, with the Reverend George Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook St., Valatie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in his memory to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.
