ALBANY - Paul J. Benoit, 94, after a brief illness, died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Albany Medical Center. Born in Sheldon, Vt., son of the late Amede and Amelia Fournier Benoit, he resided in Cohoes for most of his life.
Paul proudly served his county in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as Private First Class, in the 77th infantry division. He was employed for many years by the Painter's Union Local 201 and later by the Parks and Recreation for the City of Cohoes.
In 1954, Paul married the love of his life, Joan; together they raised four children. He loved to go bowling on his weekly family league, bet on the horses at Saratoga in the summers, attend the county fairs, apple picking in the fall, and travel whether it was to the beach or to Walt Disney World. Most of all he loved his family. He was also a communicate of Holy Trinity Church in Cohoes.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Kelly Benoit. Survived by his devoted children, Kathy (Dean) Lagace, Paul (Dawne) Benoit, Jay (Linda) Benoit, and Rob (Patti) Benoit; his grandchildren, Thomas Lagace, Lori (Rudy) Hughes, Jay (Wendy) Benoit, Tanya (Stan) Karas, and Rob Benoit; and great-grandchildren, Bella Benoit and Aiden Karas; his sibling, Mary "Mae" Boyea; and many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Phil, George, and Henry "Gil" Benoit; sisters, Mary Jane Casey and Bertha Tiernan; and great-granddaughter, Madisyn Benoit.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., from Holy Trinity Church, in Cohoes. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery Cohoes. Relatives and friends may call at the Marra Funeral Home, on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m.
