My grandfather loved his family immensely, especially the grandkids—me and my sisters. He'd always gives us candy, especially Werther's because he always had some in his pocket.
And when we were little kids and we were over at his house our mom didn't want us to drink a bunch of pop so he would give us what he called “dark water” which in reality was just Dr. Pepper. So he wasn't technically giving us pop, just dark water.
My sisters and I would often go swimming in his backyard pool. He would spend all of this time getting it ready, getting the chlorine just right, and all the other work involved. And after all that work he would never get in the pool—he did it for everyone else's benefit. He was content to spend the time grilling food and watching us have fun.
Some of the best memories of my grandpa are from the trips we took out East when I was younger to visit Civil War battlefields. We'd eat practically every meal at a Cracker Barrel.
It was me, my dad, and my grandpa (three generations of Kruegers) tramping through the woods sunrise to sunset. We always had a great time. And this one time we were at the Widow Tapp Farm at the Battle of the Wilderness. And my grandpa couldn't walk as far as we were going so he stayed behind and my dad and I went on ahead. And my grandpa hid behind this bush along the trail and when I was coming back he jumped out and scared me really bad. I found out later, he had that all preplanned and my dad was in on it. He used to tease me a lot on those trips.
And one of the greatest gifts was all of grandpa's great stories: about his time in the military, especially WWII, but also stories about the Depression, all of the places he lived, things my dad and uncle Mike did when they were kids, and on and on. He could talk forever.
He was a huge Colorado Avalanche fan. And after games he'd call me up, “What'd you think of that game?”
He was a great man who loved his family and friends and loved the Lord. And I loved him very much and so did my sisters. But as much as I loved him, I respected him a lot more.

Bob
I attended the Memorial Services today and, you being so humble, did not realize how impressive a life you led.The number of people in attendance at age 94 was testament of how you reached out to so many people.
God bless you and may you rest in peace.

Bob had so many wonderful qualities. I smile as I remember his smile. My heart was touched by his kindness and non-complaining nature. He asked about family, wanting updates on children long grown up and away.
It is an honor to have known Bob. He made this world a better place for having walked it. His steadfast love of Louise and his family was always present. He was a blessing. May the love he gave continue as his legacy.

Col Bob Krueger and I had a common interest and love of bonsai since we met in 1969. We belonged to the Rocky Mountain Bonsai Society and served as presidents in the mid 1970's. Bob was passionate about whatever he undertook whether it was bonsai, orchids, or Japanese gardening.
He was a man of great integrity, who loved his wife Louise, his family, friends, acquaintances and more. Everyone who knew him will miss him.

I am truly saddened to learn of Bob's passing but at the same time am comforted in knowing that he is with our Lord in a much better place free from all the conflicts and troubles of this world. I knew him quite well as Captain Krueger on Iwo Jima back in 1945. We were both interested in photography and he taught me a lot about developing film and printing pictures.
I was fortunate enough to meet him again in 2004 and 2005.at two of our 386th Air Service Group reunions.
He was a great guy who will be sorely missed by his friends and family to whom I offer my sincere condolences on their loss. Earl Boyce

Bob has always been a wonderful neighbor. His friendship has meant a lot to me. I am honored to have known him and to have spent time with him. I will always think of you, Bob, and I will take you with me everytime Pat and I go at Marcos for our weekly dinner. You have always been a fun companion for us.
