Roland Gaetano Obituary

MECHANICVILLE Roland R. Gaetano, 80, of So. Third St., died Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at Saratoga Hospital following a long illness. A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, he was born November 23, 1924, son of the late Joseph and Rose DeVito Gaetano. He was also predeceased by his wife, Bobbie Ball Gaetano, and a sister, Theresa Guilianelli. Rol was a lifetime barber who operated Rol's Barber Shop in Mechanicville for many years and, at an early age, worked with his father running Joe-Rol's Shop on Park Ave. An avid hunting and fishing sportsman, Rol enjoyed spending his time at Saratoga Lake, loved horse racing and was known to be a tough luck handicapper. A lifetime member of the Plum Brook Fish and Game Club, he also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Rol was also known for saving and growing orphan plants in his shop windows all winter. During World War II, he served with the US Army in the European Theatre. Survivors include his sons, Lindley Gaetano of Stillwater, Gary (Denise) Gaetano of Mechanicville, Ronald (Nabua Dupuis) Gaetano of Cambridge and Michael (Mary Singley) Gaetano of Mechanicville. Also grandchildren, Lindley Jr., Randy, Gina, Jennifer, Christopher, Dean and Mark Gaetano and a great-granddaughter, Olive Gaetano. Also two brothers, Mario Gaetano of Halfmoon and Joseph Gaetano of Mechanicville, along with nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul William Street Church. Burial with military honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the Devito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Residents Council, General Fund, Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, 12020.

Such a wonderful person and human being. My mother took me to his barber shop my whole child hood in the 80s and 90s. I had not even know he had passed in 2004. My condolences to his family he was such a genuine human being. May he rest in peace

I met Roland at Maplewood Manor. I began visiting with him on my way to see my friend who lives on the 3rd floor. Roland was so easy to talk with and had a great attitude. I'll miss him. My sympathy to his family.
