Steven Leap Obituary

TROY, N.Y. Fighting to the very end, Steven E. Leap (Kooba), 46, succumbed February 15, 2006, at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Nancy Schanz Leap. Born in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of the late Richard and Joanne B. Leap. A graduate of Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School and Siena College, he received his degree in finance. Steve enjoyed a career in insurance and pharmaceutical sales, having most recently been employed for 12 years with Aventis Corporation, retiring in 2002 due to his health. Steve was an enthusiastic participant in various sports, playing softball for the Central Park League and was a member of the Thursday Night Redwood Men's Bowling League. He also enjoyed skiing, hunting and was a member of the Watervliet Rod and Gun Club. He was also a lifelong fan of the NY Giants and the NY Mets. Besides his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Kenneth J. (Marion) Leap of Niskayuna and Richard B. (Nancy) Leap of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. His companionship will also be sorely missed by his faithful dogs, Scooter and Riley. Our family wishes to extend our grateful appreciation to the staff at Samaritan Hospital, who showed great compassion in caring for Steve. Special thanks go to his friend Dr. Russell Zivkovich and Dr. Regina Resta with NY Oncology Hematology, as well as her staff, for all the care and support they provided each and every day. We also wish to convey our gratitude to the people at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, Mass., especially Dr. Joseph Antin, Toni, Julie and Bonnie. My thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and Steve's families as well as his pals. His courage and optimism throughout his illness are inspirational and we're all blessed for having him in our lives. I'm thankful for the 20+ years of friendship and all the laughter shared - I can still hear his Popeye laugh now. Heaven must have been in need of some great comedy to have Steve taken from us so soon. Memories of Rip Roc, Pauly's, PYX Breakfast Club at Halloween, the goofy glasses at Steve and Nancy's wedding always make me smile. Keep them laughing and smiling up there, my friend.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy and the entire Leap family. Steve was a great guy and neighbor. I will always remember him playing my father and I in basketball. He was the one who showed me how to spin the basketball on one finger. He will be missed.

He was one of the truly nice people that I had the pleasure of spending two years with. Steve was kind, gracious, loyal and so excited about what the future held for him. Our deepest sympathy is extended to Nancy and family. Though we never got to meet "Stevie Wonder", he has been in our thoughts and prayers thoughout his battle. Knowing his dear sister-in-law Patti, we knew that Steve was a courageous, exceptional person of strength and hope. We are saddened at your family's loss but know his battle has now been won to a place of everlasting peace, where he waits for all of you.

May God continue to embrace you with His love and grace.

Our deepest sympathies to the Leap family. Steve was a great friend. I will always remember the road trips with him and the gang to see Rip Roc, and his suprise visits to Syracuse.

Steve had the kindest of souls— a great role model, indeed.

Hey Steve, put in a good word for the Mets to the big guy up there. They could use all the help they can get. I'll miss you.
