William McBride Obituary

McBride, William L. STILLWATER William L. McBride, 65, of Hudson Avenue, died early Thursday, August 20, 2015, at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, after being stricken at home the day before. Born in Troy, May 7, 1950, he was the son of Mona Ciepiela McBride of Halfmoon, and the late William McBride, Jr. A 1968 Shenendehowa High School graduate, Bill quickly joined the U.S. Air Force to begin his 37 year career of serving his country. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1973. Bill then enlisted in the New York National Guard and was stationed with the Stratton Air National Guard Bases' 109th Airlift Wing in Schenectady, where he served for 31 years, before retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant in 2005. Bill was an active member of the 109th Airlift Wing Alumni Association and had also managed Stratton's Noncommissioned Officers (NCO) club for many years. Bill was also very active in his local communities' veteran programs. As a member of the American Legion Post 91, he served as the posts Adjutant and Chaplain, the Saratoga County Commanders Adjutant, the 4th District Chaplain and the New York State Department Commanders Aide. He was a member of the local VFW, and along with being a 40 year member of the Mechanicville - Stillwater Elks, he was also its Bar Chairman for several years. For many years, Bill had prepared care packages to send to troops deployed overseas. Though Bill was a community military minded person, his true dedication was to his family. He loved his three daughters and the time he was able to have with his granddaughter. Survivors in addition to his mother include his loving companion of 36 years, Jacqueline Snow; his daughters, Victoria (Scott) Colby of Mooers, N.Y., Nicole (Michael) Brooks of Burnt Hills and Holly (Michael Slattery) McBride of Stillwater; his cherished granddaughter, Rauri Isib?al Slattery; siblings, Jacalyn Hoyt, Louis McBride and Kathleen (Peter) Geleta, all of Halfmoon; and his faithful Scottish Terrier, Lily; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Dwane Hoyt. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015, from 3-7 p.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 South Main Street, Mechanicville, N.Y. 12118. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m., at the funeral home with military honors and burial to follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In keeping with his wishes, Bill's family requests that in lieu of flowers and in his memory, all remembrances be made to VETHELP, 36 Church Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020, an organization formed to help house and provide living essentials to homeless veterans in our area.
