William Walthousen Obituary

Walthousen, William
TROY - At home in the early morning hours of January 19, 2023, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William Walthousen, slipped away into eternal peace after a long hard battle with cancer.
Born in Olean, N.Y. on June 4, 1949, to George Hamilton and Elaine Magleony, he was one of seven siblings. "Wild Bill" as he was known to many enlisted in the Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Upon returning to the states he came to Troy where he met his loving, beautiful wife, Sandra (Nazarian) Walthousen, and raised a family.
Bill worked in various places in the area mostly commercial remodeling, driving trucks and Fort Orange Paper Co. Bill liked to refinish old furniture, riding his motorcycles and quads. He enjoyed watching local and NASCAR car racing and the 49ers Football team as well as the Army Navy game (Go Army). He belonged to the Lansingburgh Veterans Club, the All Troy Club and DAV. "Wild Bill" was loved by all, (tolerated by some), he met! He was always ready to help if he could and always up for a party!
Bill is survived by his wife, Sandy; his daughter, Stacy Lattimore; granddaughters, Courtney and Ashleigh; great-grandsons, Xavier and Elijah Leaks. Also survived by his sister, Roberta (George) Smith; brothers, George and Robert, and many nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves behind his furry companion, Oreo.
He is predeceased by his sisters, Donna Verschage, and Frances Foster; brother, Randy Prutzman; brother-in-law, David Nazarian; and James and Patricia (Nazarian) Hiller.
A heartfelt thank you to the Veterans Hospital 9th Floor Oncology Hematology team, Dr. Eugene Kim, Deb, Greg, Patty, Susan, and Sharon. Without all your efforts we would not have this extra time with him.
Services at Leahy's Funeral Home, January 26, from 4-7 p.m. and January 27, at 10 a.m. at Gerald Solomon National Cemetery. With a celebration of his life to follow at the Lansingburgh Veterans Club, all are welcome.
