Alice Benton Obituary
Alice G. Benton, age 92, of Fleming Island, passed away November 28, 2018 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring. She was born in Norfolk, VA , graduated from Miami High and attended Florida State College for Women. She was married to Ted Gourley and was a faithful Air Force wife traveling around the USA and Japan with her husband and two children (Kathy & Ted, Jr). They later moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida where she resided for many years. She has resided in Fleming Island for the past six years and was a member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Jacksonville.
In Jacksonville she is survived by her daughter, Kathy Story (Drew); grandson, Tom Story (Sonia Grütter); beloved friend, Bob Lindenschmidt and his daughter, Debbie Meiners (Fred).
In Virginia she is survived by brothers Lee Waidner Keene (Penny); William D. Keene, III; Larry Comstock (Mary Beth), Ray Comstock (Ellen); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Gourley; son, Ted Gourley, Jr.; and second husband Deward Benton.
Services will be held Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 at Allegro South Building in Fleming Island.
St. John's Family Funeral Home is in Charge of Arrangements.

Ms. Alice, it´s hard to believe it´s been 4 years! I go to Allegro every 2 weeks and never fails that I think of you (and Mr. Bob) and miss you more. Last time there, I talked with a friend of yours who said she thinks of you often as well. As Mr. Bob´s Debbie said, I´m also looking forward to our heavenly reunion.
Oh, I found this pic of you and Mr. Bob when you were in that play. You were so good and such a natural. I really enjoyed it. Love and miss you. Thoughts and prayers to family and friends.

Ms. Alice, I still miss you so much. I so looked forward to our visits, and it saddens me every time I go to Allegro and not see your smiling face. Alice, it has been 2 years now since you went home. You and dad are still so missed, especially at our family gatherings. You added joy to our celebrations and certainly to my dad’s heart. My Aunt Alice was incredible, beautiful, kind and gentle, and always positive and loving. "Mom 2" had a big heart and a great sense of humor. I had the pleasure of knowing her since I was a child and will always cherish the memories of our times together.

Alice was a wonderful and dearly loved friend and companion of my dad, Bob Lindenschmidt, for nearly 6 years at Allegro where they met. Alice had a contagious zeal for life and renewed it for Dad. They shared their great love for music (40's), their Lord, their family and others. I fondly remember the Glenn Miller Concert where they acted like teenagers again and also Alice shooting hoops in our game room at 90! I will be forever grateful for the joy and purpose Alice restored to my dad's life. She loved Dad and us, his family, especially the great grands, and sent their pictures to all her friends. And our family loved her! I treasure now all the beautiful cards she sent us by snail mail full of loving sentiments. Alice, you will be so dearly missed at our gatherings, but we look forward to seeing you again at our heavenly reunion! We love you and Merry Christmas! ❤
