Carol Mason Obituary

MASON Carol S. Mason, 66, of Ponte Vedra Beach, beloved wife, mother and friend of many, died peacefully and comfortably at her home on September 2, 2002 after a valiant and lengthy battle with mixed mullerian ovarian cancer. Her family was by her side. Carol was born September 28, 1935 in Albany, NY and raised in Catskill, NY. She graduated from Hood College in Frederick, MD and Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA with a B.S. degree in Nursing. She lived in New Rochelle, NY, Wooster, OH and Pittsford, NY before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1993. Carol practiced her profession at MGH in Boston, MA and New York Hospital in New York, NY. She was also the school nurse at The Allendale-Columbia School in the city of Rochester, NY, from 1976 to 1986, her proudest professional accomplishment. Carol was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Ponte Vedra Beach, the Republican Club of Ponte Vedra Beach, Baptist Medical Center-Beaches Auxiliary, Newcomers Alumnae, and served as Vice President and photographer for the Longtime Newcomers Club of the Beaches. Surviving family members include her husband Kenneth B. Mason; daughter Teena (Marteena) Mason of Jacksonville Beach, FL; son Kenneth B. Mason, III, his wife Eileen Mason and grandsons Ryan Charles and Scott Kenneth Mason of Valrico, FL; brother Martin C. Smith and sister Nancy S. Ursprung of Catskill, NY; and half-brothers Roger Smith of Clearwater, FL and Peter Smith of Palenville, NY. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 6th at the Quinn-Shalz Chapel. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7th at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Joan Bryan officiating.
