Dear Geneva, Iris and Family,
I'm so sorry about the loss of your Dad. I know he was very loved, and loved you guys, from the stories of him you've shared with us. Keep the memories alive, and your Dad will always be with you in your heart.
Love, Julie

Sally,
We all have fondess memories of your dear husband. Mine are of those times spent learning from him.
Dick had become my mentor and none better could have been desired. His loss is no small matter. His guidance will not be forgotten. Never enough, he'd imparted much and for that you have my heartfelt gratitude.
The Christmas parties in Orlando were fun.
We'll not forget him.

Sue's comments of 1-17 brought back other adventures Dick and I shared. I, also, worked on the Wyo ranch, with Dick, near Big Horn-the ranch was owned by an English Lord (Lord Oliver Wallop-his son(?) later became a Senator from Wyo. The "big" city of Sheridan was nearby and Dick and I got quite an education in that wide open town ('50s). Dick and I also worked in a flood cleanup, in Souix City, IA, one summer-the Floyd river overflowed its banks and we worked at a Sue Bee Honey factory cleaning out the dead chickens, dead dogs and cats, and other debris from the flood, from the factory. Dick, Wayne, and I also worked together at the Green Giant packing plant in LeSeur, MN-Dick and Wayne did the hump work stacking boxes of peas-I was given the intellectual task of putting an "X" on the back of every 50th box to indicated a new lot. Dick and Wayne were paid .99 an hour while I received $l.01 an hour for our labors. This was, of course, in Dick's formative years.

Thank you Roger for remembering Dick's talent as an artist. Had he pursued the art world there is no doubt in my mind his work would have been well known. I am fortunate to have a cartoon pencil sketch he did titled, "Wild Cow Milking Contest". When I was a 5 year old Dick would have me crawl around on the floor and jump in place and do other antics as he would quickly sketch me, later he would draw up a cartoon strip in which I got to be the main character. As he listened to The Sons of the Pioneers on his 45 record player. I ran across some of those drawings as a young adult and now don't know what happened to them. I do know that it was hard to believe he was only 15 and 16 when he did this work as it showed great maturity. His oils he were also very good he did realism and abstract. Dick's natural artistic talent was truly a gift. Dick also played the trumpet when he was in school....that came to an abrupt halt when the director discovered he was playing by ear and couldn't read a note of music. Dick also worked on a ranch in Wyoming for one summer when he was a teen. He could definately ride and handle a horse. I believe that summer as a working cowboy convinced him there had to be a better way. Steak for breakfast was ok, but eating dust behind a herd of cattle the rest of the day left alot to be desired. As a matter of fact mother said Dick didn't even want to look at another steak when he returned home. It's January and the National Western Stock Show is winding up this week in Denver. Dick raised, showed, and auctioned off a Black Angus steer at that prestigious show, again, as a teen. I don't believe anyone has mentioned his love of and talent in sailing. No matter what his interest he always wanted to do his best, and be the best, otherwise, why bother. We get that competiveness from our mother. Well, Dick was modest and rarely owned up to his many talents, this little piece would surely embarrass him. We weren't very close after Dick left high school as I was only in second grade and "just a kid". He was a Marine and ready to show the world who he was. He did that, and did it well.

Sally and family, Working with Dick was always a pleasure. I never saw or heard him get angry, a true gentleman, he was... in a class of his own. My husband, Gary, thoroughly enjoyed sitting next to him at the Christmas party two years ago, talking, laughing and sharing stories. I found a saying, inspired by an Eskimo legend and I wanted to share it with you... "Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." A look at the stars, the touch of a hand... you are wished whatever comforts you. You are wished what brings peace to your heart.

Sally and Family, Dick, your husband of 44 years and my business associate of 10 years, was a real man. Strength, dedication, a laser-like focus, intelligence and loyalty. Dick personified what's right about the world. I will miss him too.

Dick and I first met in 1952 when we were both Sophomores in High School. He was into cars, even in those days-Dick had restored a 1949 Ford Coupe, with rumble seat-the car was a picture of perfection. Quite a chick magnet too. I remember Dick as a perfectionist and full of ambition. I thought he might go on to become a famous artist because he was very talented with a pen or pencil. He and I went our separate ways, after HS-both from a geographic and a life path scenerio. We were starting to bond again, through the internet, and with occasional
face to face get-togethers. Dick always considered Wayne Austin and I his "brothers he never had". I'll miss Dick's presence, on earth, but hope to be together with him in the hereafter.

Manny and I will truly miss Dick as one of our Corvette friends. Not only did we enjoy you both traveling with us, and Dick competing, but I also enjoyed you and I "working" together at timing. That was the time that I got to really know you and to realize just how special you and Dick are. You are a wonderful couple and your love for each other and your family was very obvious. We are truly blessed to know you. You remain in our thoughts and prayers daily.

Although I only knew Dick Mier for 3 years, I felt as though we were close friends for many years. He and I worked closely on the Board of Directors for Deer Run, where we live and he introduced me to the North Florida Corvette Association.
He has been a very positive influence in my life and that was very helpful following the passing of my wife on January 13th, nine years ago. He will be forever in my thoughts. We have prayed every Sunday at The Sawgrass Chapel for Dick and will pray tomorrow for Sally and the entire Mier Family.

It is a terrible thing to loose good friends.
I am so glad we were able to have a great time with Dick in Sanford N.C. over the Labor Day Holiday. We spent some quality time racing, eating, drinking and telling lies about how fast we went. I know he had a good time that weekend and he made some great runs. He was a very competitive guy and always thought he could have gone faster. He also was a friendly competitor and had many friends amongst his competition. Let's keep Dick in our thoughts as we go out and compete this year.
It truly is A Sad Day for NFCA.

Dear Sally & Family,
Joan and I are sincerely sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Although we've only known Dick for a relativly short period of time, we've grown to care for him very much. I'll not forget his competive spirit, the fun we had comparing lap times, and his enjoyment of being behind the wheel of his Corvette. I always looked forward to seeing and talking with him at the races when I had the opportunity to race in Florida. He was more than a great competitor, he was a good friend! We will miss him very much.
We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time.
May God bless.
