Robert Strohl Obituary

Robert A. Strohl Sr.

Robert A. Strohl Sr., 91, formerly of Jim Thorpe, joined his wife, Barbara (Redline) Strohl, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, while residing at the Forest Hills Convalescent Facility, Weatherly. He was the husband of Barbara for 64 years.

Born in the former upper Mauch Chunk area, he was one of three boys to Herbert and Alverta (Martienssen) Strohl.

Bob attended Mauch Chunk Jr. Sr. High School where he was noted for his athletic skills in basketball and baseball. Later in his life, and in between fishing for trout at the creek, he continued his love for sports from the side lines or living room by rooting for the J.T. Olympians, Penn State Nittany Lions, N.Y. Yankees and the UCONN Huskies.

Bob left school and joined the U.S. Army, where he was assigned to the 524th Military Police BN in LaRochelle, France, for three years during the Korean War.

Upon his discharge as Corporal, Bob began his entrance back into civilian life as a clerk for the A & P Tea Co., Quality Control Supervisor – Blue Ridge Pressure Die Casting Co., Floor Installer – Foster Floor Coverings, Foreman - Container Corp. of America and retirement from Ametek Westchester Plastics Corp.

Bob was a dedicated and lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in the heights of Jim Thorpe. He had served as secretary on church council, sang in the choir as well as other duties in the maintenance of the Lord's house. Bob's last and proudest position that he held was that of the head usher.

In his early years, Bob's civic-minded side led him to life membership(s) at the former Marion Hose Co. No. 1, Jim Thorpe Fire Police and the Jim Thorpe American Legion Post 304, where he held many offices, including Post Commander. Bob was also a faithful member of the Carbon Masonic Lodge No. 242, F. & A.M., Jim Thorpe.

Along with his wife Barbara, brothers Herbert (Delaware) and Edward (New Jersey) also predeceased him.

Surviving are a son, Robert Strohl Jr. (Jodie); granddaughter Stefanie Mumford of Waterford CT; grandson, Jonathan Strohl; and great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Strohl of Jim Thorpe; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to "Doc" and "Lise" for all you have done for dad, as you were special friends to him whom he loved dearly. Many heartfelt thanks to dad and mom's nephew, "Little Will" Redline. Your selfless provision of time and help that you provided to both mom and dad in their late years, particularly as their personal chauffeur, meant so much to them and is extremely appreciated.

Service: Graveside service 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown, with the Rev. William Thompson officiating, followed by a military honor service. The Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation can be made in Bob's name may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in the Heights, 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe, PA. 18229.
