Alan Gardner Obituary

GARDNER Dr. Alan Martin Dr. Alan Martin Gardner died suddenly Saturday, December 29, 2007, in Ann Arbor, MI, where he was undergoing treatment for cancer. Born April 23, 1953, in Battle Creek, MI, he graduated from St. Phillips Catholic School in 1971. Upon graduation he attended Michigan State University, followed by medical school at the University of Michigan. From 1980-1984 he served as a flight surgeon and physician in the United States Navy. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Ohio and went on to work at the University of Michigan, University of Chicago and University of Kentucky. He participated in many charitable organizations including Operation Smile and as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed photography, coin collecting and college football on a Saturday afternoon. Throughout his life his warmth and generosity touched many people. Surviving are his children, Dominic and Emily; his wife, Gayle; his step children, Tony and Alison, and his three siblings, Mary, Theresa and Mike Memorial services will be held Friday, January 11th, at 11 a.m. at St. Phillips Catholic Church, 112 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek, MI, with military service to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd., Augusta, MI.

I enjoyed working with Alan and visiting with him in the neighborhood. I was shocked to learn of his death. I hope there was no suffering and that family was nearby. Alan will be missed.
