Alan Perry Obituary

Alan R. Perry

Alan R. Perry, age 71, passed away in his Oregon, Ohio home on June 5, 2017 and went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2013 which slowly and sadly changed his mind and body and finally took his life. Born October 18, 1945, in Toledo Ohio to Lawrence and Dorthea (Buhrow) Perry of Oak Harbor, Ohio. On December 21, 1963, he was married to the love of his life, Carol Lowe, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Blackberry Corners in Martin, Ohio. He attended and graduated from Rocky Ridge Elementary and Oak Harbor High Schools. While still in high school, he started his career at Northern Manufacturing in Oak Harbor. At the age of 18 he was employed by the DeVilbiss Company in Toledo Ohio for 29 years where he apprenticed into the Electrician Journeyman's program. In 2000 he was hired as an electrician at Chrysler Jeep until he retired in 2009. He was a member of UAW Local 12.

Alan loved spending time with his family and friends. He was loved by many. He had many interests over the years including his love for fishing, boating, golf, wood working, gardening, dart ball and in his younger years bowling and softball. He was a Boy Scout Cub Master, taught Sunday School, was a poll worker and used his many skills performing maintenance at New Harvest Christian Church, of which he was a beloved member for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron (Judy) Perry and sister-in-law, Norma Perry. He is survived by Carol (Lowe) Perry, his loving wife of 53 years and care taker; sister-in-law, Judy Perry; siblings, David (Sharon) Perry and Janet (John) Gilbert; children, Rick (Olga) Perry, Angela (Mike) Bodnar and Wendy (Scott) Ferris; grandchildren, Rachel (Aaron) Boes, Isaac Bodnar and Joseph Perry; step-grandchildren, Sonya Stiles, Christina Ottersbach, Cynthia (Satoru) Takahashi, Scott Ferris, Angela Soliz and Michelle Ferris; great-grandson, Ezra Boes and seventeen step-great-grandchildren, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at New Harvest Christian Church at 3540 Seaman Road, Oregon, Ohio on Thursday, June 8, 2017. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., memorial service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a wake. Alan has donated his body to the University of Toledo Medical Center. His final interment will be at Allen Township cemetery in Williston, Ohio. Many thanks to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for help over the past year and to Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio for support and knowledge of this terrible disease.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or New Harvest Christian Church in Oregon, Ohio.
