Allen Mortemore Obituary

Allen Reid Mortemore

Allen Reid Mortemore, age 87, of Oregon and formerly of Perrysburg, died Monday, March 14, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was the son of Arthur and Cleo (Reid) Mortemore, the oldest of 3 children. Al attended Whitmer High School where, at graduation in 1952, he was honored to receive the Dale Crow Memorial Award for outstanding performance in sports and good sportsmanship. Six months after graduating, Al joined the Army with the First Cavalry Headquarters Company. He was stationed in Sapporo, Japan where he served 2 years.

Returning home, Al spent 4 years in all areas of construction before beginning his own business, A. R. Mortemore Masonry Contractors. During his working years, he served as president of the Masonry Contractors Association as well as president of the Masonry Institute of Northwest Ohio. Al enjoyed the years spent with Masonic Lodge 659. He was also a member of Zenobia Shrine where he served as marshal of Zenobia parades in numerous locations. Al loved to work! Even before his retirement in 1999, Al was actively involved in helping to keep churches in good repair. He enjoyed travels to Henderson Settlement in rural Kentucky where, with his wife, Mary and teams from their church, he took on building repairs – projects that helped families in that United Methodist community.

Preceded in death by his parents, Al is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Mary; dear daughters, Jill (Larry) Keiffer and Kelly (Jai) Marshall. He is also loved and appreciated by Mary's children, Jeff (Jill) Bennett, Mary Beth (Greg) DeSalvo, Jody (Paul) Schilling, Laura (David) Kleinschmidt, Rich (Jodi) Bennett; and foster son, Tony (Kennis) Tang; grandchildren total 22 with 8 great-grandchildren!

Al was always such a kind and helpful voice on the phone whenever I called for Mary to substitute for me as the Organist at Rossford U. M. Church. Al and Mary made a wonderful couple. He will be greatly missed. Our love and prayers of comfort to Mary,
