Amelia DeLeon Obituary

DeLEON

Amelia

Amelia DeLeon, 85, of Martin, Ohio, died Friday, June 13, 2014, in Advanced Specialty Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. Amelia was born in Gonzales, Texas, on June 16, 1928, to Jesus and Rita (Rodriguez) Garcia. She married Fred M. DeLeon in Houston, Texas, on May 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death on October 19, 1987.

Amelia had worked in the kitchen at the Luther Home of Mercy in Williston, Ohio, for several years, but the job she cherished most was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She loved being around her family, including special nieces and nephews, no matter the occasion; whether it be singing, baking pies, or in her younger years, going to her sons' baseball games. Amelia always looked forward to traveling locally, around the United States or abroad, especially cherishing her memories of her trip to the Holy Land. Amelia was always described by her family as a caring, loving, giving and strong-willed person, who lived the mantra of "its better to give than receive."

Amelia's survivors include her sons, Larry (Debbie) DeLeon and John DeLeon; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Bertha (Fred) Trejo, Ninfa Torres, Dora (Bob) Navarro, Ruth Garcia, Tony Garcia; special friend, "Chon" Ascension Salinas, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and siblings, Amparo Ochoa, Hope Garcia, Jesus Garcia Jr. and David Garcia.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2014, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 S. Main St., Genoa, OH 43430. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 501 West St. Genoa, OH. Interment will be in the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the church or the American Cancer Society, 740 Commerce Dr. Suite B, Perrysburg, OH 43551. Online condolences may be made at

Larry, Johnny and DeLeon family: It was with great sadness that I heard of your mother's passing. She and your dad were great friends to my parents. I have fond memories of visiting your house as a kid. Your mother was always a very gratious host. It is never easy losing a loved one especially one's parent. Please accept my condolences and prayers. May she rest in peace.
