Anita Kelly Obituary

Anita (Kelley) E. Kelly

Anita Elaine Kelly died September 4, 2021 peacefully at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was born in Sandusky, Ohio on March 10, 1936 to James Ralph and Helen (Erney) Kelley.

Anita was a graduate of Sandusky St. Mary's High School and the Mercy College of Nursing in Toledo. After a brief career at Mercy Hospital she married Edward J. Kelly, and they started their family.

Anyone who knew Anita knew family was her greatest joy, followed closely by a good game of bridge and a strong Irish whiskey. The sound of lake waves was music to her ears, and traveling the world with lifelong friends was a passion. Her calm presence provided comfort to family, friends, and neighbors.

She was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she served on the Parish Council and numerous committees. She was a volunteer with Hospice of Northwest Ohio for a number of years, a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, and active in many bridge leagues throughout Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her parents and sister, Grace Casali. Anita is survived by her children: Dr. Catherine Kelly (Don Rigsbee) of Fayetteville, NC; Eileen Nessel (Chris) of Boulder, CO; James (Eileen) of Sylvania, OH; John (Sherrie) of Toledo; Patrick (David Gallegos) of Boulder, CO; Molly Matthews (Todd) of Toledo; and Joseph (Jessica) of Sylvania. Grandchildren: Elyh Nessel; Eamon, Brendan, and Brian Kelly; David, Nicole, and Elizabeth Kelly; Andrea and Kaci Matthews; Sophie and Violet Kelly; great-granddaughters, Farrah, Bexli, and Scarlett, and sister Joanne Casali and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Tuesday, September 7th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. At the family's request, face masks will be required at the visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 8th at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 2208 Castlewood Dr., Toledo, OH 43613, at 11:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, Anita requested donations can be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish School. Please view and sign our online "guest registry" at CoyleFuneralHome.com

We extend our condolences to the Kelley family. I will always remember Anita, plus her forever smile and Irish humor. Our high school years at Sandusky St. Mary's were fun and the class stayed very close. We have maintained our friendships in various ways. May God bless Anita and may she rest in peace.
