Barbara Jean Matney, age 76, of Toledo, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Heatherdowns Rehab & Residential. She was born on December 24, 1945 to Wilbert and Lula (Yates) Shank in Toledo.
Barbara was an ornery, but ever so loving woman. Her grandchildren and family were her world, and kept her going through some of the hardest times in her life. She was into politics, and believed in "standing up for your rights." She started a grassroots organization with retirees, and devoted a lot of time to it. She was also a big shopper. When Meijer opened their doors, she would be there all day if she could. She married the love of her life, Virgil, and spent over 40 wonderful, loving, and happy years together. Barbara was a strong woman. She fought through so much in her last few years, and her courage and strength were astounding. She is finally at peace, and can spend the rest of eternity with her husband pain and worry free. She will be dearly missed.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Candace (Brian) Kirchner; grandchildren, Noelle, Corbin (Daniela), David (Jamie), Kyle, and Gabrialle; great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Everlee; three nieces, and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; and her parents. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Arrangements for Mary are being handled by Freck Funeral Chapel.
