Betty Merce Obituary

Betty J. Merce

Betty (Harrison) Merce passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Toledo Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born May 28th, 1931, to Henry and Louise (Condra) Harrison, in East Prairie, Missouri. She grew up in Harrisburg, Arkansas, and received her bachelor's degree at Bowling Green State University.

Betty met her husband, Clarence Merce, in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1953, before moving to Toledo in 1955. Betty worked as a second-grade teacher for TPS, at Walbridge Elementary, until her retirement in 1995. When her children were younger, Betty always enjoyed having the neighborhood children over. Following her retirement, Betty spent time traveling and spending time with her family. She was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith and was a charter member of a Maumee Baptist Church as well as other Baptist congregations in the Toledo area.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son, Mike; and daughter-in-law, Cindy. She is survived by her brother, Bob, and wife, Liz Harrison, of Jonesboro, Arkansas. She is also survived by daughters, Vicki (Rusty) Janicki, Connie and Jim (Beallas). In addition, she is survived by grandsons, Michael (Jennifer) Merce, Spencer and Connor Beallas; as well as great-grandson, Aaryn Merce.

The family would like to thank several of her neighbors in Perrysburg for their friendship and kindness. Coyle Funereal Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Services will be private. Please leave a condolence message for the family at CoyleFuneralHome.com.
