Bradley Ansberg Obituary

News story
By Mike Sigov
Blade staff writer

Bradley David Ansberg of Ottawa Hills, co-owner and operator of Ansberg-West Funeral Home, died March 26 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. He was 49.

He suffered from brain cancer, said his brother, Todd Ansberg.

Along with brother Todd, Bradley Ansberg owned and operated Ansberg-West starting in 2014, when their father, John Ansberg, retired and sold them the business.

Before that, Mr. Ansberg helped with Ansberg-West operations right out of college, assisting with funeral arrangements and services.

"He was the most kind and compassionate person I ever knew," Todd Ansberg said. "And he was always looking to help people."

Carrie Ansberg, Bradley Ansberg's wife of seven years, said the family business was her husband's "lifelong passion."

"He just effortlessly comforted people with his genuine compassion in their greatest time of need," Mrs. Ansberg said.

Born Jan. 27, 1975, in Toledo to Charlene "Jo" Lebold and John Ansberg, Mr. Ansberg graduated in 1993 from St. John's Jesuit High School. He then attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, from which he graduated in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in sociology.

In 2016, he married the former Carrie Serber, with whom he had two sons.

"He was very involved with his sons and was just the extension of their imagination, being playful, imaginative, and silly. He was the funny one," Mrs. Ansberg said.

In his free time, Mr. Ansberg liked to be in the company of his family and friends. He also enjoyed dining out, listening to smooth jazz and classical music, and driving classic cars. He was a member of the Toledo chapter of Chaine des Rotisseurs, an international dining club.

"His philosophy was always, 'The more the merrier,'" Mrs. Ansberg said.

Along with his wife, Carrie Ansberg, Mr. Ansberg is survived by his sons, Theodore and Ford Ansberg; father, John Ansberg, and brother, Todd Ansberg. His mother died in 2022.

A celebration of life ceremony will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Inverness Club.

Arrangements are by Ansberg-West Funeral Home. The family suggests tributes to a charity of the donor's choice.

Brad was a true gentleman whom I will always remember with a smile on his face, a kind word to say, and a zest for life. In his trademark bow tie, he was an old soul who yearned for life's finest. I knew him through my siblings from Clear Lake, but my most vivid memory of him was from my sister's wedding in Naples, where he admired our then 2 year old little boy who was the ring bearer. Little did he know he would go on to have two precious boys of his own. How grateful I am that I got to see him one last time at my brother's wedding reception in Toledo last summer. Wishing his family my deepest condolences!

Carrie, Teddy, Ford, Todd & the rest of the Ansberg Family,

He was a true gem in this world and so very genuine, we will miss him so much.

I met Bradley shortly after meeting my wife Shayla and we became instant friends, always had great conversations filled with fun stories, laughter and of course drinks!! We will continue with the "Bloody Mary Blowouts" tradition until we meet again at Heaven's bar, cheers until then my friend.

The most charismatic cutest human to ever exist. Bradley was a breath of fresh air and loving kindness and FUN. His spirit was beautiful. I will never have a glass of Chardonnay or hear Frank and not think of his vibrant stamp on everyone he met. Praying and sending strength to his amazing wife boys, and extended family. Sending a glass of Chardonnay to heavens gate for him
