Carl was the epitome of BIG BROTHER to many kids like me growing up in Riverside, Ontario...St. Mary's Blvd., to be exact. Some people are destined to invent new exciting products, discover cures for illnesses, and otherwise gain an aura of popularity .Carl was famous for just being Carl. He touched the hearts of everyone he met. He met life head-on with a personality and sense of humor we cannot forget. He was indeed, SUPERMAN of Riverside....never to be forgotten. We all loved him so..

Dear Mitch, Mike, Patty, John and family,
I want to express my sincere condolences on behalf of the entire Murphy family for your loss. It was my honor to have known Carl- during my time as a teen living behind the Renda house Carl was like my second father. He always brought a smile to my face with either a joke or something to feel good about myself. What a special person he was. I'll never forget him. You all have such a wonderful family, and our prayers are with you during this difficult time. We love you all!

I grew up across the street - A close close lifelong mentor of mine has passed away. Since I was a little boy, you coached me, mentored me, advised me, through victory and defeat; through sheer joy and deep pain and injury. You advised me, comforted me and guided and steered me. As your baseball pupil, I honor you by keeping you forever in my heart and in my soul. Be well Coach and know your presence and impact are forevermore.

Your adopted son,

What can we write that hasn't already been written about Uncle Carl. I've known him all my life and Jody has known him since she was 17. We all know how extremely funny he was, but the first word that will come to our mind is love. Uncle Carl was the most loving, caring man we think we ever met. Our condolences to the equally loving Aunt Mitch and the rest of the family. We wish we could be there with you physically but we are with you in spirit. God Bless you Uncle Carl, we love you!

Jan and I extend our sincere condolences, Mitch, to you and your family. We met Carl through our mutual good friend Hilton Murphy. The last time I saw Carl was April of 2008 when we met for breakfast at "The Classic Cafe" restaurant on Sylvania Avenue. That morning I sold Carl a ticket for a fund raising banquet and evening we planned for Jack Kennedy. I remember kidding Carl because he ordered a butter burger. The waitress seemed to know Carl's order before he gave it since he was a regular at the "Classic Cafe." Carl and I had some great conversations about baseball, especially concerning his Canadian friend and former big league infielder Reno Bertoia. God bless, Carl, such a class individual and we will never forget him. Tuffy and Jan

All of my love to Mitch and the entire Renda family! We are all truly blessed to have had him in our lives. He will be missed!

To Mitchie and the extended Renda family - please accept our condolences at your loss. Wherever Carl was - there was laughter and good cheer. A guy everyone loved to be around with that infectious smile and wit. Of the many things he taught us, one of the most important was how to be a good friend. He certainly was that!

I never met Carl, But I am the daughter of Alvin Jerome Tobin (1928-2009). Jerome was born in Riverside , Ontario and he went to Assumption High School. I remember my dad telling a story about Carl playing a football game--my dad would laugh so hard everytime he told this story. My dad also spoke very fondly of Carl--A real nice man he would say. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely, Lisa Tobin Chevalier, Ancaster, Ontario, Canada

He was so enthusiastic and fun-loving. I met him the first day I went to Assumption High School in 1948. He led us all off the Crosstown bus and marched us across a vacant field to the school. Later we became friends and then coaching colleagues I love him like a brother and I will miss him terribly. Rest in peace, Carl. You deserve it.
