Christopher DROUILLARD Obituary

DROUILLARD Christopher "Chris" Neil Christopher N. Drouillard, 41, of Toledo, OH, passed away July 6, 2011, in the Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. Chris was born in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph and Gloria (Jacquay) Drouillard on November 28, 1969. On September 7, 2010 Chris was diagnosed with an "unlucky" tumor that spread cancer throughout his body. Though the cancer took his life, he spent the last 10 months of it proving that he won the battle through his love and dedication. He spent his time founding Champions in Action for the students of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, speaking to classes at Central Catholic, winning awards such as the St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Adult Leadership Award and the 2011 CYO Basketball Mary Kurucz Veteran Coach Award, and spending time with his loving family. Chris attended St. Joseph's grade school and graduated from St. John's Jesuit High School in 1988, where he was the sports editor of the school newspaper and also played baseball and basketball. Chris has been a member of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church for the past 21 years involved in multiple programs including Feed Your Neighbor, Eucharist Ministry, and the pre-Cana Marriage program. For 16 years Chris coached many children including his own in CYO softball, baseball, basketball, and football, as well as travel softball teams including the Ohio Hurricanes, Ohio Peppers and the SGS Magic. Chris was an avid Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame Football fan. For many years Chris was a Sales Representative for various companies in the food industry including Weaver Poultry, SOFO Foods, Escalon and the Grande Cheese Company. Surviving is his wife of 21 years, Jennifer; daughter, Chelsea; sons, Anthony and Joshua; parents, Joseph and Gloria; brothers, Joe (Camille), Bernard (Ann), Greg (Jeanne), Paul (Carol); sisters, Mary (Leo) Posadny, Marty (Dave) Murray, Maria (Rick) Hilton, Shelly Drouillard; father and mother-in-law Jim and Pat Denniston; sister-in-law, Kim (Jeff) Rogers. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends at the Bersticker-Scott Funeral Home, 3453 Heatherdowns Blvd. at Byrne Rd. on Saturday, July 9 from 2-9 p.m., and Sunday, July 10 from 2-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns on Monday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Christopher Drouillard Cancer Fund sent to 2240 Tanglewood Toledo, OH 43614. Please view and sign Chris' condolence book at: berstickerscott funeralhome.com The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Flower Hospital Hickman Center for their special concern and loving care.

Life isn't fair. I often tell my kids that. I can't think of a better example of that than Chris not being here. I guess we are all on a journey to be our perfect selves in God's eyes. Chris took the fast track. His journey set an example to all of us about how to reach our better selves. His gigantic faith was infectious. His quiet confidence was reassuring. We are so very fortunate to have known him.

Jennifer,
May the pain and sorrow you feel today be washed away as you realize the many blessings Chris brought not only to you and your children, but to the community as well. Despite his life being cut short, his inspiration lives on in the lives of all he touched. Even though we had only just met Chris recently it was evident that he was a very special person. Know we continue to hold you in our prayers. Theresa & Homero
