Ellen D. (Savage)
Ellen Savage Wall passed away At Kingston Residence of Sylvania on January 28, 2013, with her family by her side at the age of 84. She was born February 24, 1928, to John M and Kathryn Fox Savage. She was the 4th of 9 children. They lost their mother at a very early age and were raised by their father. His goal was to keep their children together and to ensure they were all educated. Ellen attended St Ann's (St. Martin de Porres) Elementary School and graduated from Notre Dame Academy. After graduating from Notre Dame, she planned on attending nursing school when her father became ill and she had to work at the family grocery store, The Savage Market. It was then that she met and later married Ray; they were married in St. Ann's church 64 years ago and had 3 children.
Ellen spent her life caring for others. She was a long time parishioner of St. Agnes Church and then at Christ the King Church where she attended mass often daily and volunteered whenever needed including Communion distribution, funeral services and mobile meals. She was called on many times to assist her siblings, family, and friends whenever in need. Her children, grandchildren, and friends were her life. Her outgoing, social, and spunky personality was admired by all. Her smile and her laugh were infectious. Because of her close relationship with her many siblings she formed an unusual bond with so many of her nieces and nephews. She was affectionately known as "mean old Aunt Ellen", a title she cherished.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Beth (Dr. Kris) Brickman; sons, Tim and Kevin Wall; grandchildren who referred to her as "Monie" are Kelsey, Kendall, Cameron and Cory Brickman, Mackenzie, Parker, Madison, Kennedy, Tanner and Cooper Wall; siblings, Marie Witherell, Fran Somers, Libby (Frank Campbell, Nancy Coyle, Jim and Robert (Sue) Savage, and sister-in-law, Julie Etzel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and John M. Savage; brother, John F. Savage, sister, Margaret; brothers-in-law, Tom Witherell, Scott Somers, Hank Coyle, Bill Etzel; nephews, Marty Witherell, Joe Etzel, and niece, Sally Witherell.
Ellen's family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Kingston Residence of Sylvania and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the love, compassion and excellent care that she received.
Friends are invited to visit from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013, in the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. where prayers will begin on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Christ the King Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Ellen was a one-of-a-kind bright light of laughter and love and friendship to so many people, not the least of which were my parents. My thoughts are with all of you for a peaceful transition to life without her. Beth, please give your Dad a big hug for me. Sending lots of love.

Dear Ray and all the family,
Ellen embodied her Irish heritage--smiling eyes, happy heart, engaging smile, ready wit. She truly made the world brighter, like a morn in spring. I consider myself fortunate to have known her.
Her Irish laughter is now making the angels sing. She will be missed by all those whose hearts she stole away.

I am so sorry hear of your loss. I saw Ellen about a year ago at Christ the King. What a jewel - she still makes me smile as I think of the wonderfull memories of our high school days.

Ray, Tim, Kevin and Beth,
My parents always taught me the importance of having quality friends.
Ellen was such a great friend to my Mom and Dad. She personified the true loyal friend and was always there for my family in both happy and sad times.
I know Ellen is with Pug and Tee right now waiting for the clock to strike 5 so that happy hour can begin.
She was such a classy lady.

What a legacy to behold - that is what Ellen left to all of you.
My deepest sympathy to each one of you as I recall the many years of special times we shared as neighbors MANY years ago.
