Frederick

Frederick Morris, 60, passed away August 5, 2014, at 2:22 p.m. at his residence.

Frederick was born July 12, 1954, in Lima, OH to Bernard Morris and Margaret "Peg" (Moser) Morris Esmonde. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Lima.

He was a 1972 graduate of Bath High School and a 1974 graduate of United Electronics Institute in Louisville, KY.

Frederick previously worked for Morris Communications in Lima from 1974-1977, WLIO-TV as a Camera/ tape operator from 1975-1980, and as a Production Engineer for WIMA-WIMT Radio from 1980-1985 in Lima, Ohio. In Toledo at WUPWJTV, he was the Assistant Chief Engineer, Chief Operator, Technical Operations Supervisor, IT Manager, Master Control Operator from 1985-2012.

From 2012 - present, he worked for WTVG 13 ABC in Toledo.

Frederick was a member of Lucas County Amateur Radio Emergency Service and Skywarn. He was a former member of Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross Disaster Communications Team. He received two Public Service Awards from the A.R.R.L.

His hobbies were amateur radio license WB8VJD (K8REM) and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Margaret "Peg" (Richard) Esmonde; brothers, David (Sue) Morris of Wapakoneta, OH, Allan (Sheldy) Morris of Ada, OH, and by two nieces, Julie (Jon) Elam, and Christina Morris.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Dr. Gary Batty to officiate the service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Friends may call 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

So many fond memories! I was caught many times by Rick trying to make a new pot of coffee.... he'd yell 'Stop, its perfect! Coffee is only good if you can chew it!!' Thanks for all you taught me way back when!

Rick was a true television professional . Without his help, expertise and knowledge of the weather computers, software and storm warning equipment I would have looked really dumb on live TV. He was the one working behind the scenes making us all look good. My heart is broken but my prayers go out to Rick's family.
