Frederick Nowak Obituary

Frederick F. "Fred" Nowak

Fred Nowak, 73, of Lakeside/Marblehead, Ohio, died on December 9, 2023, at Edgewood Manor in Port Clinton, Ohio. He had multiple health issues stemming from Agent Orange and the Vietnam War. Fred was born to the late Clara (Lubinski) and Leo Nowak on November 11, 1950, in Toledo, OH.

Before his health disabilities, Fred worked as a truck driver, warehouse manager, and STNA. His hobbies were fishing, kite and airplane flying, fireworks, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Bike Week in Sandusky, Ohio, was enjoyed with his cousin Duane Jendrzejak. Fred was honored to be one of the first Vietnam Vets to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. departing from the 180th hangar, Swanton, Ohio.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Nowak; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nowak and Darlene Nowak; and his faithful dog companion, Smokey.

Survivors include his brothers, Richard "Dick", David (Jan); his sister, Sister Geraldine Nowak, OSF; cousins, nieces and nephews, great and great-greats. Other survivors who were most supportive to Fred were his niece, Cindy McGurk, her husband Marty and their son Dan. Fred will be missed and remembered by his family and good friends, retired Captain Tom and wife Patty, superb neighbors and friends Bill and Vicki, and good friend, Emily, the dog whisperer.

A memorial Mass for Fred will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church, Parkside Blvd., Toledo, Ohio. Presider will be Rev. John Kasper, OSFS.

In memory of Fred, please be kind to and thoughtful of Veterans, especially Vietnam Veterans. Please buy a poppy on Memorial Day too. At one time, Fred made them as a volunteer at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

Fred's cremains will be buried at a later date. Rest in peace, Fred!
