Genevieve Malkowski Obituary

MALKOWSKI Genevieve "Busia" Genevieve "Busia" Malkowski, age 81, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born April 18, 1927, to Hipolit and Antoinette (Sikorska) Ratkiewicz in Toledo. Genevieve was employed with Libbey Glass for 35 years in the carton department, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Eagles and the PNA Club. Genevieve was also a longtime parishioner of Regina Coeli. She enjoyed staying active after her retirement going to many of her grandchildren's sporting events to cheer them on. Genevieve will be remembered by all her friends and neighbors for the many hours spent in her garage with them sharing a cocktail and a good story. To Genevieve there were no strangers, only friends she hadn't met yet. Genevieve was proud of her Polish heritage and spent Sunday mornings listening to the "Sharon and Chet Polka Show". She and her sister, Stella were also known to many as the "Checkerboard Sisters" when they danced at the old Johnny's Night Club in the '40's. In her later years, Genevieve enjoyed working her puzzle books and watching her soap operas. She will be remembered by all who knew her as someone who enjoyed life and always looked for the silver lining. In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Henry Malkowski; sister, Helen Kreger and brother, Eugene Ratkiewicz. She is survived by her children, Patrick Malkowski, David (Pam) Malkowski, Deborah (John) Farrell and Kenneth (Amy) Malkowski; grandchildren, Jamie (Abe) Dewood, Brian, Ryan (Carrie); Lindsay (Craig); Jeffrey; Brittni and Kaitlynne Malkowski and Jonathan; Zachary and Nathaniel Farrell; great-grand-children, Jaden; Domonick; Brianna; Gavin; Landon and Alexis; sisters, Bernice Veres and Stella Pacholski and many dear friends. The family will receive guests Wednesday from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be private. Genevieve's family would like to thank Mary Beth, Sharon, Jackie, Mary Jo and Karen and the entire staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care and support they provided to Genevieve. A special thank you goes to Angel Salazar of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for her loving guidance and support during this very difficult time. Kenny, its your old neighbor from across the street, Jill Wolfe. I visited with you and your mom the summer of '07. We sat in the garage and had a beer with your mom and John Wolfe. We ate and talked about about making kielbasa, the old Polish markets and told jokes. Your mom was indeed a wonderful storyteller, great listener and a joy to share company with. Her laugh could get everyone going. I will always treasure my conversations with Busia. My heart is heavy for you and yours. Jill (Wolfe) Seibenick

Grandma,
I will never forget all the wonderful memories I had with you as a child. All the weeks I used to spend with you in the summer months, weekend nights watching Love Boat and Dallas, drinking five cups of coffee on Sunday mornings when my mom told you only one, and you made the best iced tea ever. By the way you were the best babysitter because we got to do whatever we wanted.Thank-You for those memories. Now you can be at peace.

Dear Grandma:
You were truly always someone special to me. I will never forget the times when I was little we had together walking to big lots to go shopping, watching soap operas together, sitting in the gargage listening to that country music you liked and many more great memories.
