My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of our dear friend Jerry. The world has lost a kind and gentle man that put a smile on the faces of all those around him. My family and I were very privileged to get to know him and benefit from the wisdom he shared. I only wish that I would have gotten to know Jerry earlier, especially as a young businessman.
We developed great respect for this gentleman and the humor he shared. It was our pleasure to invite him to gatherings into our home where we considered him part of the family and in many ways, the life of the party. We were always surprised that he would appear in poor weather or at night when others his age wouldn't have attempted. His stories were unlimited and we were all amazed at how he could recall and reiterate jokes. I will never forget the time he appeared at our door with a video that he insisted we watch in an attempt to save our marriage. His care for others was genuine.
God bless you Jerry and may you rest in peace. You will be greatly missed by our family and your Sylvania friends. You left a mark on all of us and we love you. Dan

Sad to say a final goodbye to Jerry today, we met at the JCC where he worked out every day and he became like a pseudo grandpa and great friend over these last 19 years. Those who worked out with us will remember how if a pretty woman walked by while he was lifting weights he might be on # 2 but he'd say 91, 92, etc. LOL. He will also be remembered for his jokes. He had a zest for life and exercise. Over the last few years, he couldn't go to the gym anymore, I'd still find him walking across the parking lot at his condo development and he'd curse the cold weather when he couldn't get out. I never tired of listening to stories of his youth, family, life and how the world used to be. I knew better than to visit during a Penn State game as the one time I did all I got was a hi, come sit and nothing till a commercial but understandably, that was his team. Oh, how he loved his kitties especially his Princess and when she passed he was heartbroken but eventually took in two strays whom he loved very much. He was inspirational with many of his stories but his story of how he came to Toledo with nothing more and $5 in his pocket and when he got off the bus and saw the sign "You'll do better in Toledo" he knew he had come to the right place tells everyone that you can do better. Rest peacefully now Jerry. You will be forever missed. Your friend, Kathi Witt
