Henry Moore Obituary

MOORE Mr. Henry L. 4/2/1946 - 12/15/2007 Police Athletic League Boxing Coach Mr. Henry L. Moore, boxing coach, succumbed to his final seven-year bout with lung cancer on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 3:15 a.m. at the age of 61. Henry served his community by becoming president of Washington Village's Homeowners Association and its current sergeant-at-arms. He also served as an executive board member, finance and housing committee member for Organized Neighbors Yielding Excellence, Inc. (ONYX). Henry was a 1964 graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School and was employed over 25 years for Sun Oil as a stationary engineer, retiring in 2001. Henry was spokesperson for the Victory Center, which provides free after care services to cancer patients. He was honored by this organization as its Victor Honoree for 2006. Having been an amateur boxer in the Police Athletic League (PAL) as a youth, Henry volunteered as boxing coach for the PAL and was involved in the success of the Toledo PAL becoming 2003 Golden Glove Champions. Henry always felt his first greatest accomplishment was his marriage to Toledo NAACP president, WilliAnn Moore, who he met in kindergarten at Gunckel Elementary School. His second greatest accomplishment was being a father and positive role model to son, Joseph and daughter, Donna Madena. His final accomplishment and pride of his life was his grandchildren, Timeka, Cory, Reva, Nicole, Joseph III, Tyler Marie, Matthew, and Dakota. Henry was preceded in death by his mother, Leola and father, Elder Jerry Moore Sr.; brothers, Jerry, Jr., James, Lonnie, and Eugene; sisters, Delores and Dorothy. Henry is also survived by sisters, Leola Moore and Geraldine Walker; brother, Sylvester Moore; nieces, nephews, special cousin and source of support, David Rayford; faithful relatives and his many friends. In lieu of flowers, Henry would like everyone to contribute to his foundation, which was established for children needing boxing equipment and supplies. The foundation is called "Fighting for Kids". Contributions can be sent to P.O. Box 9388, Toledo, OH 43697. Visitation will be 8 p.m. -10 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2007 in the C. Brown Funeral Home, Inc. Chapel, 1629 Nebraska Avenue (419) 255-7682. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Indiana Avenue M.B. Church, 640 Indiana Avenue preceded by Family Hour at 12 noon. Ann,
There are so many stories we could share. Aaron always had a profound respect for Henry - an image that will forever last in our lives. I, will always remember Halloween parties, Washington Village Cookouts, late night gatherings, and a host of ways that he actively showed he cared for all of the children in the community. We take continued pride in his encouragement for our entire lives - and will forever remember the role model that he was. May God bless you, and grant you peace during this time. From late night t.v. and movies, to cul de sac gatherings - our memories are full. With love always...Aimee & Aaron

My first wonderful experience with Henry was when I walked into the Victory Center, alone and scared and he was the first one to greet me with that beautiful smile and a hug and saying welcome, I am Henry. Then after several conversations turned out to be that he knew my nephews who were boxes in their younger days. What a wonderful man. I am so sorry for your lose. He was a great man among men. Kind, gentle, and loving his family very much. I will miss him terribly and seeing his handsome face. God Bless you all
