Holly Hill Obituary

Holly L. Hill

Holly L. Hill, 52, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She was born in Toledo on September 2, 1972, to Michael Barteck and Sherrill Heldt. She graduated from Whitmer High School in 1990 and from Mercy College with an associate's degree in medical billing and coding. She was employed at UTMC for over 20 years and most recently worked at the University of Michigan.

Holly enjoyed listening to music, dancing and being the life of the party. She had an infectious smile and a laugh that was contagious. She enjoyed the warm weather, going on boat rides and motorcycle rides. She loved her family, but especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Jessica Moya and Jeffery Hill; grandchildren, Tylor, Charlie, Caiden, Listo, Johnny, Josè, and Jessica, Jr.; brothers, Gabriel (Lisa) Barteck, and Ryan (Denise) Heldt. She was preceded in death by Rose Giese 'Mema'; Donald Giese 'Poppo'; and her stepfather, Harry Heldt.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., where a memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

It is with great sadness that the coding team at the University of Michigan learned of Holly's passing. Holly was a valued member of our team, playing an important role in coding complex and challenging cases. She will be dearly missed, and we are all grateful to have known and worked alongside her for the past four years. Holly brought joy to our team by sharing pet photos and actively participating in our coding huddle discussions. Her presence enriched our lives both professionally and personally.

For my sister

From the earliest age, Holly chose her own path, her own rules, her own life. She asked for very little, wanting just to be seen, to be heard, and to be loved and understood. Holly IS a force not easily defined. She was fierce but kind, strong but delicate, willful but empathetic, sarcastic but funny, and wild but innocent. She loved and cared for all without apology, and even when in a bad situation, somehow managed to prioritize the comfort and well-being of others above her own. She found joy and laughter in the ordinary, celebrating the highs while shielding most from the lows. Hers was a unique and difficult path, but she travelled it with dignity.

Holly found the greatest joy and solace in relationships. More than anything, she loved being a mother and grandmother, surrounding herself at every chance with the world she made possible. As a young wife, she found love and created a beautiful family. In recent years, she found new love and companionship as a fiancé. As a daughter, she was anchored by Mom as caretaker, confidant, and safe haven from the storms. As the second/middle child, she enjoyed being both little sister and big sister to her brothers. As a step-daughter/step-sister, she grew up knowing the love and connection of a caring father and "weekend" sisters. She loved all her extended family and friends more than they will ever know. This is all to say, she endured and lived with love for everyone she knew.

Holly also enjoyed some simple things, like eating out at restaurants, rock music and concerts, and spending time with her pets. She frequently passed the time playing games on her phone. Occasionally she enjoyed shopping, clothes, and decorating her home. But mostly these took second place to spending time on career and family.

For education and career, Holly was drawn to health care from her own experiences and a desire to help others. In jobs to perform or supervise medical coding, she worked difficult cases and would sometimes feel at odds with the medical demands, acting a protector of human/patient needs. In witnessing the suffering of others, she defended the dignity and rights of those she did not even know. She made life-long friends in her career and worked each day to serve patients' health care until she could work no more.

In her 52 years, Holly experienced more than many could experience in multiple lifetimes. Between the difficult times, there are as many lessons of love and compassion. She IS a force we will not forget. She loves you all.
