James Stevenson Obituary

James Alan Stevenson

06/23/1949 - 03/13/2021

James A. Stevenson, "Papa James," 71, a vibrant soul and lifelong West Toledo fixture passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 13, 2021 in Silver Springs, FL due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born to Ralph and Betty (May) Stevenson on June 23, 1949 in St. Louis, MO.

Jim attended Whitmer High School and graduated Class of 1967. He knew early in life that he wanted to be his own boss. Nearly 50 years ago, he started Stevenson & Sons Carpet Cleaning with his then wife, Debbie. He always said, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." Therefore, he did all the cleaning himself. With his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he made sure his customers were pleased. He specialized in fine oriental rugs for prominent residents of Toledo, OH.

Jim loved raising his two boys and preparing them for life as adults. Always smiling and laughing, he was a free spirit who did things his way. He enjoyed socializing and having fun, whether it be with family, friends, or random strangers. He also enjoyed margaritas at some of his favorite establishments. He loved cruising his many Harley-Davidsons, goofing with the grandchildren, building things in the garage, and organic gardening.

Jim is preceded by his parents; brother, Michael; and best friend, Bill Chapman. He is survived by his sons, James M. (Sarah) and Christopher (Tiffanie); his grandchildren, Kiley (Mark) Stalker, Cheyenne, Maisy, JJ, Mya, Mirabelle, and Maisyn; his great-grandchildren, Leyton, Landyn, and Lincoln; and many close friends such as Jim "Crazy" Dolnar.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623.

Jimmy and Christopher:
I am so, so sorry for your loss and I can say nothing more on that sentiment.
Your father and I spent many years together in various forms of friendship. I was very fond of him; we laughed a lot.
The obituary told me your families (Jimmy and Christopher) have grown...exponentially? Lol. I can see him being totally enthralled with that.
Don´t be afraid to curl up and cry; it will provide release and take the edge off periodically.
Best Wishes
I was just recently informed.

Another hole in my heart. Jim was a hard working exceptional person. Always upbeat and saw only good things in life. Wendy and I will sorely miss him. A great American.

Loved the man! Always complimentary to us and very, very personable. Had a few great times with him and always enjoyed having margaritas with him at Carmels in Toledo. So sorry for your loss to all of his family and close friends. God Bless!
