James Weber Obituary

James Weber

James Weber passed away August 2, 2024, at the age of 78. Jim was well known as the radio voice of the Toledo Mud Hens. Jim was born August 27, 1945 to Robert and Lucy Weber. He was proud to be in the first graduating class from Bowsher High School. Jim began his professional life at Jeep. His passion and lifelong career began by accident filling in for a friend as the play-by-play radio announcer for high school games in the early 1970s. This eventually led to the role of a lifetime. For 49 seasons Jim Weber was the radio voice of the Toledo Mud Hens. As was once said, his voice was the soundtrack of Toledo's summer. Jim was the first broadcaster inducted into the International League Hall of Fame. He broadcast his final game the night of August 1, 2024. He had a streak of 6,395 consecutive games spanning his 49 years.

Jim and his beloved wife Katharina "Kay" were married for 58 years. He was the proud father of Christine (Dave) Heflinger and Mary Fong (Kevin Steiger) and grandfather of Meredith Hamilton and Ryan Fong. He found incredible joy the last 4 years as the great grandfather of Drake Tosha.

There will be no services. Donations in memory of Jim should be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I am a lifelong Rochester Red Wings fan. Whenever Rochester played Toledo I always listened to a couple innings of Jim´s broadcast because it was so enjoyable. His style was as comfortable as your favorite pair of slippers.

Fun memories, with Jim, during and after many of the Mud Hen Games. My mother, sister, 2 kids and so many friends spent hours in "The Roost" and on trips to away games, back in the 70's and 80's. Thanks, Jim.

I first met Jim working at Jeep in the model shop. He was a stock chaser, helping to keep parts on hand for the many projects. He had a great sense of humor and a love for sports. RIP.
