He served his country enlisting in the Ohio National Guard during the Korean War. On June 9, 1956, Jack married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Beckman, after meeting her at the Toledo Council of Catholic Youth. In the summers, he participated in local bass tournaments and enjoyed fishing trips to Rice Lake in Canada with his friends. Over the years, Jack transitioned from fishing with friends in Canada to joining his son Jeff on trips to the Georgian Bay. Together, they spent the last 15 years chasing huge bass, pike, and musky.
