Julie Harris Obituary

Julie Anne (Hupp) Harris

Julie Anne (Hupp) Harris, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on June 12, 2024, after a brief illness. She was 79.

Born in Zanesville, Ohio, on August 9, 1944, Julie graduated from Newark High School. She went on to Muskingum University where she majored in home economics. It was in college that she met the love of her life, Jay Harris. They would go on to be married for 56 years. After college, Julie demonstrated Radar Range microwave ovens for Ohio Power. The couple moved to Toledo, Ohio, for Jay's law school. She obtained a masters degree from the University of Toledo.

After raising her two sons, Sean, of Worthington, Ohio, and Mark, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Julie taught high school in the area of life and family science. Teaching was her calling. It was her way of helping others and making the world a better place.

Even more than cats, Julie loved her three grandchildren – Amelia, Will, and Dean. She was a prodigious gardener. She could usually be found working in her garden or at the nursery picking up new plants. There was rarely a plant should could not identify. She was active in the Maumee Garden Club and volunteered as a docent at The Toledo Museum of Art as well. She is also survived by siblings Ellen (Hupp) Peterson and Ray Hupp of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to the Maumee Garden Club or the Alzheimer's Association of Northwest Ohio.

I am sorry to hear of Julie's passing. She has the most wonderful smile. I worked with her when her boys were at the Family Life Education Preschool, and she was on the board, and I the facilitator. I send many thoughts of condolence, and care to her family, especially Sean and Mark and their families. I remember a particular warm afternoon she and I had a conversation I remember to this day. Of course it was about one of her kittys. I had stopped by and she was gardening. We were sharing kitty info details when she expressed some trepidation as her kitty kept delivering presents of baby bunnies/birds to her door step. Julie spoke so eloquently, tenderly, and thoroughly on the situation, and various remedies both rejected and attempted. I remember leaving the garage, and turning over what we had discussed for some time. I am sure I am not alone in being grateful for knowing her. May her memory always be a blessing for you all.
