Kirk Wray Obituary

WRAY

Kirk Robert

Kirk Robert Wray was born February 22, 1955, to Mary (Hermiller) and G. Kim Wray. The family moved to Bowling Green when Kirk was six years old and he lived there the rest of his life.

He graduated from Saint Aloysius elementary school and Bowling Green High School. While at the latter he developed an interest in drama and was a long time member of the Black Swamp Players. He appeared in many plays, especially the Shakespeare productions. He was also a lifelong avid reader with universal interests in literature.

Kirk was a self-taught computer whiz and for the last nineteen years worked for the Wood County Internet Council as a Help Desk technician. However, he volunteered with them from their inception as W.C. Free Net. Before that he worked many years at Myles Pizza Pub, and for years enjoyed the annual Pub Fest with other former employees. He also loved his annual Fantasy Football league, and the Cleveland Indians.

His biological father preceded him in death in 1967. He is survived by parents, Mary and Marv Dubbs; twin brother, Kevin (Annette); another set of twin brothers, Terence (Kathryn) and Thomas (Elizabeth); brothers, Kelly (Angela), and Marty Dubbs (Amy); sisters, Alison Deiners, Melanie Wray and Suzanne Dubbs Hancock. He will also be sorely missed by his nieces and nephews, Brad Hancock, Megan Severyn, Michelle Wray, Jackie King, Bethany Robb, Kim Wittenmyer, Heather Irwin, Sabrina, Valerie, and Oliver Deiners Terence, John, Alex, Nicholas, Trevor and Connor Wray; grandnephews Charley Hancock, Mason Irwin and Liam Robb, and his cat, Salem.

Kirk was immensely grateful for the loving, compassionate care he was given around the clock during his last weeks by his niece, Kim, a Home Health Care professional.

Kirk was diagnosed with lung cancer in August, and died November 13, 2014.

Visitation will be at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., in Perrysburg (419)874-3133 on Monday, November 17, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted by Kirk's brother, Deacon Tom on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to The Black Swamp Players, PO Box 601 Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. To the Wray Family:

Words alone cannot express how grateful I am to Kirk for the role he played in my life. Since my first day at Pagliai's now thirty-two years ago, through my sometimes turbulent college years and on to the Pubfest, it has been a pleasure to benefit from Kirk's wit and wisdom. He played the curmudgeon in public, but privately, there could never be a doubt that he wanted to help me and many others in whatever way he could. I know very few people that had his intelligence as well as an indefatigable curiosity that made him a true renaissance man who carved out his niche in the world as both a memorable character and a good friend. I know that the Wray clan is mourning as your numbers are now one less, but you all need to know from this outpouring of memories how much Kirk was truly loved. Kirk leaves a great legacy - one which I will personally cherish for the rest of my days. Thanks to all of your family for sharing Kirk with the rest of us - we are the better for it.

I miss my brother and it came too soon and too unexpected.
I just always assumed we would all grow old together and share fond memories of our families and old times. I lived with Kirk for awhile and we had a great time. He never hesitated to loan you his car are whatever you needed.
He got me to perform with black swamp where we had a ball. The pictures bring back so many great memories I wish I had more. And now due to bad weather I cannot make it to Ohio for his funeral and it makes me really miss my family and brother even more! I love my family and am so blessed to have all of them and that we are all so close.

Melanie; So sorry for your families loss. We lost my brother Haven to lung cancer in May 2013. It takes them too fast and too young. May your happy memories help you through this difficult time.

I was so glad to see that the picture on this site was large enough to include the Mud Hens shirt. For years his Mothers' Day gift to me was taking me to a Mud Hens game. I will always cherish those memories, and those of our several trips to the Shakespeare Festival in Canada.

Working at Myles' was a crazy, chaotic, fun, and amazing experience. Through all of my 7 years there, a constant for me was Kirk. Working long night shifts together, it was the quiet times I remember most, when waitstaff, drivers, & cooks could talk.

Kirk would chat with me about classical music, and the operas I was performing in. His knowledge of literature, opera, and theater was amazing, especially in the sea of heavy metal/hard rock music that was the soundtrack of the Pub. Seeing him perform "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" in the musical Kiss Me Kate, is a cherished memory. He stole the show with witty banter delivered in a Brooklyn accent and pinstriped zoot suit.

For awhile we lived across the street from each other and would carpool. Those 4 am car rides are some of my favorite Kirk memories - recapping the night's crazies, laughing that we'd both be watching Perry Mason when we got home, really just talking about nothing -priceless memories today.

He also kept all of us 'old Pubbers' in contact creating an email group for us, and organizing Pubfest each year, sometimes goading us to attend. He probably never knew how much those things meant to me, especially when I was across the country far away from family and friends. I should have told him...

I wish I could be there to celebrate his wonderful, albeit too short, life. My love and prayers are extended to his whole family. You will all be in my heart now, and in the coming days.

Much love, Paula

Kirk made my life richer. He was a wonderful brother and a loyal friend. To my family and all Kirk's friends - I look forward to sharing memories and laughs looking back. But right now my heart feels as if it has liquefied to tears.
