LaTonya Marie Slaughter

In Loving Memory of LaTonya Marie Slaughter

Our beloved LaTonya Marie Slaughter entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

LaTonya was born on May 14, 1975, in Oceanside, California, to William Slaughter and Susan (Smith) Slaughter. She later returned with her family to Toledo, Ohio, where she was raised and educated, attending Lagrange Elementary School and Woodward High School. Toledo remained close to her heart, no matter where life took her.

For the past 13 years, LaTonya made her home in Amite, Louisiana, where she built a life filled with love alongside her devoted fiancé, Wallace Burton. Together they shared countless simple joys - especially dinners at their favorite Chinese buffets, laughter-filled conversations, and quiet evenings at home with their cherished fur babies, Sammie, Lillie, Kitten, and Sophie, who brought her endless happiness.

LaTonya had a beautiful spirit and a warm, welcoming heart. She never met a stranger. She loved traveling to new places, meeting new people, and creating memories wherever she went. She found joy in life's little things - sitting peacefully on her porch watching hummingbirds flutter by, tending to her plants and flowers, gaming online, and spending quality time with those she loved most.

Family meant everything to LaTonya. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She treasured the bonds she shared not only with her family but also with her lifelong childhood friends, Ruby Walker, Jennie Gaston, Christy Thompson, and Shalanda Robinson- friendships that stood the test of time and distance.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving fiancé, Wallace Burton of Amite, Louisiana; her mother, Susan Smith; her bonus dad, Anthony Stribling, affectionately known to her as "Stepdaddy"; her sisters, Melissa Slaughter (Jarvis) and Jalisa Stribling; her brothers, Jamison Stribling (Sharae) and JáVon Stribling (Amelia); along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Slaughter; her grandparents; her special great-grandmother, Ruby Pickens; her brother, Anthony Stribling Jr.; and her nephew, Davion Stribling.

Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the love, laughter, and light LaTonya brought into our lives. Her kindness, her smile, and her vibrant spirit will forever live on in the memories we hold dear.

LaTonya has been cremated and has returned home to Toledo, Ohio, where she rests surrounded by family. A private memorial celebration will be held in the near future for family and close friends.
