Lea Sosko Obituary

Lea (Gilbert) Sosko

Lea (Gilbert) Sosko, 70, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease with Dementia. She was born on September 24, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Roy and Jane Gilbert. Lea was a 1971 graduate of Clay High School, Oregon, Ohio, and earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in 1977. Upon receiving her degree, she began working as a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio. She loved working for and providing care for newborns and their families throughout her 39-year career.

On September 1, 1979, Lea married Frank Sosko and they began their wonderful life together raising their four children in Oregon. Lea enjoyed traveling with her husband, as well as reading, landscaping, exploring seashells on the beach, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Lea is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Frank; children, Stephanie (Ryan) Franke, Tony (Danielle) Sosko, Roseanne (Troy) Brummett, and Vince (Alex) Sosko; grandchildren, Leah, Ty, Stella, Braiden, Sadie, Maisie, Piper, Logan, Iris, and Faye; brother, Bill (Vicki) Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would especially like to thank Dr. Lawrence Elmer and Molly Scott, CNP, as well as the entire staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care. Per Lea's wishes, there will be a private service for family at St. Ignatius Church and Cemetery in Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Lea's name be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or the Clay High School Alumni and Friends Association (CHAFA).

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Sosko family in this time of grief. I worked with Lea forever and also grieve for her now. I am so sorry that she had to endure all that she went through. She was a very likable person who always had a since of humor. She had the knack to turn any situation into a comical story that we could all laugh at for years to come. It was a sad day when she retired, as she is missed in our unit. It is even more sad now, as she will be missed by all that knew her, including me.
RIP Lea Sosko, my friend. I will never forget the memories we shared together. They were the best! You will truly be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Lea. She was one of the best nurses in the NICU, she trained me while I was still a nursing student and even when I graduated. We became good friends. One of the very BEST!!!! She will be greatly missed.
Sincerely,
Bea Whitiker-Taylor

I worked with Lea for a few years in NICU at St. V's. I loved working with Lea--she never panicked when a new babe came in--she did everything she possibly could to make sure that wee one made it to continue their journey. She was a joy to work with :)_ My thoughts and prayers are with you, her family.
