Marvin Holdridge Obituary

Marvin E. "Jim" Holdridge Jr.

Marvin E. "Jim" Holdridge Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, surrounded by his family, a dear friend, and the voice of Elvis Presley singing "How Great Thou Art". His kindness, neighborly spirit, and generous nature left an indelible mark, making him a friend to almost everyone who crossed his path. His absence leaves an ache in the hearts of those who knew him.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 1, 1955, to Marvin E. "Jim" Holdridge Sr. and Rosemary (Sarvis) Holdridge, Jim spent most of his life in North Toledo. A graduate of Woodward High School ('73), he married the love of his life, Debora J. (Keiser) Holdridge of Gibsonburg, Ohio, in 1976, after a fateful introduction by their best friends, Tom and Deb. Their love was steadfast, a bond that withstood every trial. For 20 years, Jim tenderly cared for Debora through illness, embodying the vows he made-"in sickness and in health"-with unwavering devotion, until death. Along the way, compassionate nurses and aides became like family, sharing in their journey.

Jim was a man who worked with his hands. He dedicated years to his craft, from Thermal Engineering to running a small business with his best friend, and later as a commercial HVAC technician for Comec before striking out on his own in 2008. But his generosity extended far beyond his work. A man of faith, Jim poured himself into Messiah Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, assisted those in need, and never hesitated to roll up his sleeves to help fix what needed repairing. He believed in giving-his skills, time, treasure, and friendship-and gave freely.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Debora; his daughter, April (Rob) Wesley; his son, Matthew (Michaela) Holdridge; his treasured grandchildren, Taylor LaDean and Marcus Holdridge; and a large extended family who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Lorraine D. Holdridge; and his beloved cat, Maggie Mae, who surely met him at heaven's gates.

Jim's journey on this earth has ended, but his love and kindness remain woven into the lives he touched. Though we grieve, we take comfort in knowing he has been called home to the Lord, resting in the dawn of an endless day awaiting us to join him in heaven.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David R. Jasin-Hoening Funeral Home, 5300 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4703 N. Summit St., Toledo, OH 43611, with an hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, in Toledo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church in Jim's honor so that his legacy of service, friendship, and faith may continue.

Deb and family, so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. We would visit him and his mom when we would see Aunt Marlene at the Cherry wood apts. He always enjoyed his music and always was interesting and fun to be around. A very intelligent and a great guy! He was always so good to us younger cousins. When I got married we lived around the corner from you guys on Maple St. Always enjoyed seeing you guys. May he rest in peace. God bless you all!
