July 6, 1943 - March 5, 2026
Mitchell Dechter, J.D., of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on July 6, 1943, to the union of Jack and Bella (Singer) Dechter of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1953 he became a citizen of the United States. Mitchell was raised in Detroit, where he graduated from Mumford High School (1961). While at the University of Michigan, College of Arts and Letters (1965), he was an active member of the SAM fraternity. In 1968 Mitchell was awarded the Juris Doctor (Cum Laude) from Wayne State University. In 2018 the State Bar of Michigan awarded Mitchell Emeritus status, following his 50 years of Professional Practice.
In addition to his Partner, Michael "Mike" Rivard, of 28 years, Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Lisa Dechter-Efros ("Teddy") of West Bloomfield Hills, MI; Amanda Dechter (Neal Rogers) of Berkley, MI; and his brother, Alvin (Marilyn) of Eugene, Oregon; and six grandchildren. "Mitch" will be deeply missed by Mike's family, Rick (Paula Rivard) Caras of Flint Township, MI; Mary Murphy of Knoxville, TN; and Pamela Seliman of Arlington, TX.
Mitchell enjoyed vacations in Michigan UP, Desserts at Pesto's, traveling by Land, Sea, and Air, as well as March Madness.
Interment services will be private.
