Norman Blum Obituary

BLUM Norman "Butch" Norman "Butch" Blum, 73, or Oregon, Ohio passed away on August 22, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on June 9, 1935. He and his twin brother, Norbert, were the 7th and 8th children of eleven, born to Paul and Evelyn Blum. Butch joined the Boilermaker's Union Local 85 in 1956. He retired in 1995. Butch was a lifetime social member of VFW Post #9816 in Oregon. The VFW was a very important part of Butch's life, where he found many, many friends. The most important part of his life was playing his guitar and singing. He had a beautiful voice and loved entertaining people. He started out playing in the family band with his father and brother, Donnie, first playing at the Bayshore Supper Club and then at Guy's Inn for many years. Butch could be found at the VFW on any given night playing and singing. He was loved by many! He also was known for his woodworking abilities, making rocking chairs, and toys for many kids. Butch is survived by his three children, Norman (Sue) Blum of Cocoa, FL, Terry Wood, Michael (Laura) Blum of Sarasota, FL; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, George Blum of Oregon, OH; sisters, Virginia Dutcher of Temperance, MI, Joan LaCourse, Marilyn (Joe) Daly, Rosemary Dixon, Janet (Eugene) Schacht, of Oregon, OH; many nieces and nephews and his many friends, too numerous to mention. Also surviving Butch are the five sons of Margaret Nickles, Mark (Karen), Jeff, Tim (Debbie), Scott (Eva) and Bruce (Michelle) Nickles; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Butch and Margaret were together for 12 happy years, always seen together until her passing 2 years ago. Butch became very close to Margaret's five sons and daughter, Shelly, prior to her death. Butch is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and his "special friend", Margaret Nickles, and her daughter, Shelly. Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. Private interment will take place in Restlawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Butch's name are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or VFW Post #9816, Oregon, Ohio. www.egglestonmeinert.com
