Robert Dazell Obituary

Robert L. and Ruth E. Dazell

Our loving parents, Ruth, 92, and Robert "Bob", 93, passed away peacefully 5 days apart, Ruth on Jan. 28 and Bob on Feb. 2, 2021. Ruth and Bob were married on July 16, 1949 and raised 5 children together. Ruth was born Nov. 15, 1928 in Toledo to George and Mabel (Pollex) Lark. Ruth held various jobs, including Libbey Glass, where she was employed for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1988. Mom will be remembered most for her deep love and care for her family. She treasured times spent together. Because of her cheerful nature, heart of gold, and her sweetness, our mother was always a joy to be around. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities, playing bingo, word searches, cooking, and giving the best hugs ever! She had a sweet tooth for Hershey bars, and an absolute necessity for her freshly brewed coffee. Bob was born Sept. 14, 1927 in Toledo to Harold and Margaret (Prior) Dazell. He enlisted in the Army and served near the end of World War II where he was stationed in Japan. Bob was a hard worker. He was a manager of a gas station, a mechanic, and a carpenter. Later he was employed by Dana Corporation where he retired in 1987. He took providing for his family seriously. Bob gave great advice and was eager to lend a helping hand. He was very outgoing, friendly and loved to tease others in a good-natured way. Dad enjoyed camping, watching TV and listening to music. People gravitated to Dad for his fun-loving personality.

Leaving behind to cherish their memory are their daughters, Linda (Charles) McDowell, Nancy (Jacob) Myers and Susan (Gregory) Watson; daughters-in-law, Sharon Dazell and Becky Dazell; their many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by sons, Jerry, Sr. and David Dazell; and grandson, Jerry Dazell, Jr.

May God bless the wonderful staff at Hickory Ridge of Temperance for their loving care of our parents.

Visitation will be held from 1:00–4:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). A celebration of their lives will be held in the summer.

I met Bob and Ruth when I started working at Hickory Ridge a few months ago. They both really made an impression on me as well as the rest of the staff. Everyone here loved them dearly!

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of your parents. I often stopped to visit with your dad when I was out walking around the neighborhood. He was very cheerful and always offered me advice on life. It was quite a surprise when I mentioned him to my father and was told they were friends and co-workers.

Bob and Ruth were my very good friends. I went to them for advice and spoke to them daily. I will miss our talks and our friendship. The way they treated me like a son and let me call them mom and dad. I love and miss you friends.

Bob and Ruth were such an amazing couple and it was my pleasure being able to spend time with them at Hickory Ridge. They loved each other so much, the special way they looked at each other, you could see how much they were in love. I am thankful I had the pleasure of being able to help care for them. Praying for all of you for comfort during this time of grief.
