Robert Layman Obituary
Robert A. "Bobby"
Robert A. "Bobby" Layman Jr. passed away March 24, 2014, in Naples, Florida. He was born December 17, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Robert and Blanche Layman.
Bobby had a long and wonderful career as an automobile dealer starting in 1951 at 19 years old. It all started with Layman Motors and Trail Motors in Toledo and then Bobby Layman Chevrolet in Columbus and Bobby Layman Cadillac, GMC in Lancaster. He spent 63 years doing what he loved and he did it well. He had fun making commercials that people talked about and remembered sometimes at the expense of his mother or a Corvette windshield. He was a die-hard Buckeye fan and member of the OSU President's Club and Buckeye Boosters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Appling and granddaughter, Jamie Kau. Survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Patricia; daughters, Linda Layman and Cherri Miller (Elliot); sons, Rick, Robert III (Debbie), Jeffrey and Mick Layman (Debra); 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Cliff Appling; many cousins, nieces and nephews and his cat, Baby. He will be long remembered and missed by many employees, friends and customers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio. Visitation 9-11 a.m., Service at 11 a.m. Interment immediately following at the church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jace Rosse Layman Endowment Fund, Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation, PO Box 16810 Columbus OH 43216; in memory of Robert "Bobby" Layman.

I grew up spending time in the home of and hanging out with the children of Mr. Layman and the memories are great...swimming pool, church activities, school, football, etc. I have remained in contact with Rick, as he worships with us here in Springfield, Ohio from time to time. May the entire Layman family be assured of my/our personal prayers as we remember Robert A. Dear Mrs. Layman, when I first heard of Bobby's passing, my thoughts immediately went back to N. High and out to the 'Tent' on the West Side. As stated many, many times over, A "Car Guy" to the marrow. I learned so much and was so fortunate to share and experience the infectious excitement that Bobby always was spreading. Bobby always lived the life in such a way that to quote Emerson, "Nothing Great Was Ever Achieved Without Enthusiasm". I'm sure he and Ray have already started to squabble over too many White Cars, Rally Wheels and Sport Mirrors. My most deepest and sincere sympathy to you and yours.

Patsy and family My thoughts and prayers go out to you all with great sorrow, Mr. Layman was one of the greatest influence in my life , I don't really think he ever gave much thought to just how many life's he touched . Just by being the provider for so many people. Guess you could say he was a old school type of guy , Loved working and had so many family values and honesty in everything he done.
