Ronald Cichocki Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Richard Cichocki

Ronald "Ron" Richard Cichocki, 70, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after battling complications from brain surgery.

He leaves his loving wife of 47 years, Sharon (Harkiewicz) Cichocki; his son, Gregory; his daughter, Cynthia Rae (husband Michael); two grandchildren (Bella and Everett); and brother-in-law, Gary Harkiewicz and nephews, Gary Richard and Cole; many other close family and friends.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, the son of late Ted and Florence (Klawinski) Cichocki, brother of surviving sister, Gail Cichocki (Buffalo), he was a longtime resident of the Buffalo area before recently relocating with Sharon from Orchard Park, NY to Perrysburg, OH to be closer to their daughter and her family. Since moving to Perrysburg, Ron and Sharon have attended Saint Rose Catholic Church.

Ron graduated from Hutch Tech High School in 1965 and then enlisted in the Navy where he served as an electronics technician with duty station in the Mediterranean Sea. After honorable discharge from naval service, he attended the University at Buffalo (UB), where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications. During his studies at UB, he met Sharon in an English class and the two were wed.

After graduating from UB, Ron began working for UB in the communications department. Ron continued his education while working for UB, eventually earning his master's degree in communication. Even though he could "hardly imagine how people could keep working at the same place until retirement" during the early years at UB, he did exactly that, retiring from the Network and Classroom Services department in 2015.

Ron was avid reader who loved history and following the news. He also had a passion for adding his personal touch to landscaping around the home as well as general home maintenance. He was generous with both his time and God-given abilities.

Whether an impromptu trip to a local park, kid's attractions, off-roading in a Jeep, riding ATVs, or destinations halfway around the globe, he loved to travel and spend time with his wife and family – Ron was up for the adventure.

A memorial service will be held at Saturday, October 28, 2017, 10 a.m. at Saint Rose Catholic Church. There will be no burial service at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Ron's name to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Ron. He and Jim Anderson were so kind to me when I began my career at UB. It was very clear to me from the beginning that a lot of people had a lot of respect and affection for Ron. I didn't realize his family had relocated to Toledo, but I've missed seeing him on campus since he retired. Keeping all of you in my thoughts.

I worked with Ron at UB. I was a "student part-timer." I graduated and moved away in 1984. I returned to Buffalo 2003. Shortly thereafter, I met Ron at UB and we went for a walk around the campus and just caught up on things. I will always haves the most blessed memories of Ron. He is among the kindest and gentlest souls I have ever met. All my most loving thoughts and prayers to you all. Casey Brzozowiec.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ron @ UB. He as a thoughtful manager and thrilled in telling a good story. For example, one time we talked a good half hour about the Titanic, and I learned some things I never knew. RIP Ron.

I worked at UB with Ron for many years. I knew him as a gentle man with a wry sense of humor. He was always helpful and cheerful. I am greatly saddened by his death, and have no doubt that he will be sorely missed.

I am very saddened by Ron's passing. He was both a mentor and a peer to me. I learned a lot from Ron's example. He was always thoughtful and respectful. A true class act. Rest in peace Ron!
