Susan Eckel Obituary

Susan Kay (Challen) Eckel

Susan Kay (Challen) Eckel, age 77, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully from multi-organ failure on June 24, 2025, at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Born on November 12, 1947, in Findlay, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Margaret (Street) Challen. Susan dedicated her life to serving others with compassion and care, both in her career and in her everyday life.

A proud graduate of Owens Community College of Nursing, Susan worked as a devoted nurse in many medical environments during the span of her 30+ year career. She began as an RN at Flower Hospital, followed by several years in hemodialysis treatment and hospice, and finally, working in home health care. Known for her commitment to helping others, her care extended beyond the hospital, as she actively volunteered at her local food pantry and church.

Susan had a vibrant and loving personality. She was a gifted cook, an animal lover, a woman of deep faith, and a Detroit Red Wings fan. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor, her kind heart, and the love and devotion she poured into her family and community.

She is survived by her sons, Corey (Whitehouse, OH) and Ryan (Silverdale, WA) Eckel; and her beloved grandchildren, Johnathan, Charlie (Silverdale, WA), and Eden (Whitehouse, OH). She also leaves behind her siblings, Shirley Bates (Phoenix, AZ), Betty (Ralph) Weilant (Perrysburg, OH), and James (Tammy) Challen (Maumee, OH). Susan was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Christina; her brothers, Darrel and Dennis Challen; and her brother-in-law, Robert Bates.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Bethel Assembly of God, 665 W. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at McComb Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Humane Ohio or Nature's Nursery in her memory.

I'm sorry that I didn't see your passing until today. I will always remember you and especially during the times when we were growing up and mom took the family to visit Aunt Marg, Uncle Clem, the siblings and your horse. In Heaven I am sure you will visit with the family and remember those days, as well as the time we spent at Aunt Virgie and Uncle Buck's house. May you rest in peace. Carol
