Suzanne Martz Obituary

She was known as Suzanne to some, Sue to many and those closest to her - she was Suzie.
Sue died February 28, 2006, at the hospice unit at St. Vincent's Hospital. During her life she made lasting contributions to those around her, but if you could speak to her today, she would tell you the best thing she ever did was to give life to three wonderful daughters, Amy Sarachman (Michael), Stacy Martz (James Dunne), and Kristen Bach (Joe) and six wonderful grandchildren. She loved her family.
Suzie graduated from Sylvania Burnham High School and from the University of Toledo with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a great teacher and opened her own preschool, Step by Step teaching there for 22 years.
Suzie Martz was bright, articulate, and possessed a very strong sense of humor. She was most of all a great, caring mother. She taught her daughters how to be strong, independent women, loyal friends, involved parents, and lifelong partners to their spouses. For these gifts, her daughters are grateful.
Sue learned to play tennis at age 41, learned to ski at 44, learned to sail at 50 (and according to husband, Bob) was the only real sailor on the boat. She learned to play golf when she was in her sixties, and caught a 125 lb. sailfish in Mexico when she was 62. She was a lousy bowler. She was married to her husband, Bob for 50 years. She will be thought of over the years by all who knew her. Sue is also survived by her brother, James (Flo) Fuerst and sister, Jackie Graumlich.
There will be a time for friends to visit from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Coyle Funeral Home at 1770 S. Reynolds Road, Toledo, OH, on Saturday, March 4, 2006. If you wish to remember Sue, please make a charitable contribution to this fine charity, P.L.A.N. of Southwest Ohio, 11223 Cornell Park Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45242. Sue would thank you for it. Dear Bob and Girls,

To Joe she was Suzie and to me she was Sue.. Either way we both loved her and will remember her as a caring and giving friend. Many days I enjoyed working with her at Step by Step. She surely loved those little ones. And Joe has many good college memories of Suzie. You have our sympathy and prayers on the passing of your lovely wife and mother. Sorry we couldn't be there at this time, as we are in Florida for the winter.

Bob, How sad I was at your call about the loss of Sue. My immediate mental picture was of that beautiful woman, "back when" in Ft. Wayne. And how her beauty stayed! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

It was my great joy to have worked for Sue during the 1980's. She was a wonderful mentor and friend. Some of the joy and fun she inspired goes directly to my students today! Thanks Sue!

My cousin Sue came out to Califonia with another girl in 1955 during my first year at Hamilton Air Force Base, north of San Francisco. I took them to see the Ames Brothers who were performing at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. It was a memorable occasion. Sue probably had just graduated from college.

Amy,

My prayers are with you and your family. I have wonderful memories of spending the night at your house! Your Mom made homemade donuts that I still make for my children. She also was a good sport as when we got caught jumping off the landing into bean bag chairs! Keep the loving memories alive in your heart.

Dear Bob and Girls, I was so saddened to hear of your loss. I will always remember Sue's beautiful smile and some wonderful times we had on your sail boat and especially the first trip you and Terry made to bring the boat to the marina, along with some fun dinners together. My prayers will be with you during this difficult time.
