Thomas Dunn Obituary

Thomas Dunn

12/26/1954 - 12/07/2025

Thomas Allen Dunn, 70, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025. Tom fought a good fight, and while our hearts ache, our family is at peace knowing he is finally reunited with his beautiful "bride," Susie.

Born on December 26, 1954, Tom lived his entire life in Genoa, Ohio, and was a true Comet through and through. He earned many acknowledgements playing Comet football "back in the day" and remained a proud supporter of his hometown. Tom inherited a garbage business in 1980 and grew it into the successful Buckeye Sanitation, where he worked side-by-side with his employees and never shied away from getting his hands dirty. He retired in 2024 after decades of hard work and service to his community.

Tom married the love of his life, Susan (Schweickert), on February 11, 1995, and together they shared so much joy. They were married on a cruise ship-a perfect reflection of their love for travel and adventure. Weekends at Devil's Lake with Sue's family were among their happiest memories, and Tom continued spending time there even after Sue's passing. The Schweickert family cherished Tom, and he remained an important part of their lives for the last six years. Tom and Sue had a beautiful, unwavering love-Sue truly adored her garbage man.

Although Tom and Sue never had children of their own, they poured their hearts into their nieces and nephews. Known affectionately as "Uncle Tom", he enthusiastically supported each one-attending golf tournaments, buying their goats at the fair, showing up at every fundraiser, and always cheering them on. They knew they could count on Uncle Tom for anything.

Tom was a proud member of the Woodville Jaycees and the Zenobia Shriners, where he enjoyed countless parades in his little red car, always with Susie smiling beside him. He may have been young, but he really did live a lot of life.

Over the last year, Tom was blessed with an incredible support system. He could not have navigated his journey without the love and dedication of his sisters, Tammy and Bobbie, and his niece, Lisa. Our family is deeply grateful for their unwavering care.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Dunn; his sisters, Bobbie (Tracy) Kehlmeier, Tammy (Tony) Williams, and Kay (Mark) Lenox; his brother, Pat (Jenni) Dunn; his in-laws, Mary Therese Tann, Karen (Mark) Cromly, Barbara Schweickert, Julie (Ken) Clocksin and Vincent (Laura) Schweickert; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved Sue; his parents, Bob and Doris Dunn; and his brother, Jerry Dunn; parents-in-law, Walt and Therese Schweickert; and brothers-in-law, Robert Guy Tann and Walter J. Schweikert.

The family would like to thank to all who have cared for our Uncle Tom over the last month. The staff at Memorial North Hospital in Colorado Springs, St. Charles Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Memorial donations in Tom's honor may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
