Thomas Theys Obituary

THEYS

Thomas E.

Thomas E. Theys, age 80, entered into the presence of his Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, under the loving care of his wife, Victoria, the gracious assistance of Hospice of Northwest Ohio as well as family and friends. He was born to Edward and Rose (Stollenwerk) Theys on February 8, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI.

Tom was known for his patriotic support as a veteran, having served first in the U.S. Navy and then the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era as a field commissioned Lieutenant, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He retired from American Motor and Chrysler after working there for 40 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Grand Rapids as well as the American Legion in Whitehouse, OH.

From a very young age, Tom was in love with the outdoors. His second home was at his uncle's farm, where he spent many, many happy years. His love for the outdoors extended into a love for boating, camping and taking lots of pride in keeping his own acres of land beautiful. Formerly from Menomonee Falls, WI, Tom was a proud member of the Volunteer Fire Department from 1968-1978, and then moved to Santa Rosa, TX where he assisted in creating the Volunteer Fire Department there. He then made his final move to Grand Rapids, OH.

He married Victoria Celpa June 24, 1989. Along with his love for family, Tom loved his pets, Clarita, Baby Boy, Smokey and Mimi.

Tom is survived by his dear wife, Victoria; his daughter, Dona M. Theys of Santa Rosa, TX; sons, Timothy (Nadia) Theys and Danny (Leah) Theys also of Santa Rosa, TX, and three grandchildren, Nadisha, Anthony and Danny Jr. He is also survived by brothers, Dennis (Camille) Theys of Muskego, WI, Donald (Ruth) Theys and Ken Theys of Milwaukee, WI and sisters, Diane (Bob) Kutschera of New Berlin, WI and Lois (Rocco) Lauria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Rose Theys; sister, Jeannette Theys and sister-in-law, Pat Theys.

Visitation will take place on Friday, October 10, 2014, from 3-8 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville with the Funeral Service being held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 14070 Bailey Rd., Grand Rapids. The family wishes to extend a "Thank you" to Liset Rodriguez, Elva Torres and sister, Diane Kutschera and Felix and Vilma Alcalá for their special care; doctors, Dr. Peron, Dr. Crouser and Dr. Desai; those nurses providing their care for Tom, and the staff and aides from Northwestern Ohio Hospice, especially Nicole, Northwestern Oncology, the Toledo Clinic Cancer Center and St. Luke's Hospital.
