Thomas Whiting Obituary

Thomas L. Whiting

Thomas L Whiting, 83, of Curtice, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on January 18, 2023. Tom was born on October 3, 1939 to Merton and Kate Whiting in Toledo, Ohio. Tom spent 42 years working for Libbey Glass where he spent most of his years there as a Cafeteria Manager. He cherished many lifelong friendships from his years at Libbey.

Tom was also a proud professional student who was determined to get his degree. He finally did in 1989 from the University of Toledo, after 25 years of attending classes. He was an avid Rocket fan and was often seen tailgating in Lot 10 before all the Rocket games with his friends and family.

When he wasn't working or attending classes, he could be found spending time with his family. He was a proud father, coach and mentor who never turned a kid away and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Tom also enjoyed participating in sports and was an exceptional bowler, boxer, basketball player and fisherman. While Tom's children were growing up, the family would spend their Saturdays' enjoying Yum Yum's hot dogs, and Sundays attending mass at St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was very passionate and involved in his local community including the Annual Galena Street Reunion.

In 1989 Tom met his loving and caring wife Linda, who provided remarkable care for him especially over the last few challenging years of his life. They enjoyed numerous trips together traveling out west to Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Special thanks to neighbors Jim and Suny for all their support.

Tom was full of personality and could be quite frequently cracking jokes or making up catchy rhymes.

Tom was reunited with those who preceded him in death, parents, Merton and Kate; and his brother, Rick.

Tom is survived and missed by his loving wife, Linda; favorite dog and companion, Charlie; and his children, Don (Deb), Doug (Shonna), Robin, Traci (Eric), Joey, Jimmy (Angie); sister, Kay Dickens; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale on Wednesday January 25th from 3-6 p.m. with a memorial service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the "Charlie," fund at the Temperance Animal hospital.
