William Naumann Obituary

William E. "Bill" Naumann

William E. "Bill" Naumann, 91, of Toledo passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 24, 2018. A lifelong Toledo resident, he resided at Aspen Grove under hospice care the past year and a half because of declining health. Bill was the first born of Edward and Wilhelmine (Shannon) Naumann on August 27, 1926. He attended St. Thomas grade school, Waite High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps his senior year, forging his mothers signature. Bill served eight and a half years in the South Pacific and Korea.

Bill married Therese Carroll and recently celebrated 67 years together. They raised three children, Carroll, Shannon and Jimmy. Bill was employed with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and retired after 35 years. In retirement Bill worked with the Ohio Dept. of Liquor Control and also as a driver for George Ballas Buick/GMC and Franklin Park Lincoln Mercury, all of which he truly enjoyed. Bill was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and the Maumee Elks.

Bill was a good card player and in later years spent many afternoons at area senior centers playing pinochle and Euchre. Bill liked the comforts of his home and backyard pool. There was always a puzzle in progress in the family room. Bill and Therese traveled with his brother and sister-in-law throughout the United States and in one year traveled to all 88 counties in Ohio.

Surviving is his wife, Therese; daughters Carroll (Jim) Nunemaker and Shannon (Rob) Congdon, Plano TX; granddaughters, Kelly Nunemaker, Courtney, Caitlin and Carli Congdon; great-granddaughter, Harper; sister, Nancy (Charlie) Barcelona; sister-in-law, Natalie Naumann; cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sally Henry; brother, James Naumann and son, James E. Naumann.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 North Reynolds Rd. (419-531-4424). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church, where guests will be received beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Promedica Hospice, Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Aspen Grove for all their loving care of Bill.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests tributes in Bill's memory to the "James E. Naumann Athletic Fund" at Little Flower Parish or a charity of the donors choice.

Bill served his country, family and friends with great courage. All that knew him are grateful. "Rest in Peace Marine". "You served your time in hell". 'SEMPER FI".

I just learned of Bills passing, what a great guy, I worked at Coke for many years.
Bill always had a smile and something nice to say, and good memories of being around Bill. Maybe he will meet my parents up there for a game of cards.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I always enjoyed working and talking with him. My father talked of Bill often. God will have his hands full with Bill and Ralph Devore back together again. Blessings to all his Family and Friends.

Mrs.Naumann, Carroll, Shannon,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for
all of you!!
I first met "Bill" when I was 9 yrs.old
(which was like 20 yrs ago!!) He was so
tall and handsome and had a great laugh.
All the girls in Shannon's class thought
he was handsome.
He always called me by last name Hamilton,
like an Old Marine! He was part of the
Greatest Generation and they don't make
men like him anymore!
I just know he's in heaven with Jimmy
playing cards or golfing.
Love to all of you !
Pat "HAMILTON" Bayer
