William Waganfeald Obituary

William J. Waganfeald

October 19, 1940 -

April 17, 2022

William John Waganfeald, 81, passed away in his Temperance, MI home on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. He was born October 19, 1940, at the Segur Ave. home of his parents, Sylvia (Spenthoff) and Wilben Waganfeald. Bill proudly graduated from both Darby School and Macomber High School (1958). Bill married Elaine T. Leslie in Toledo, Ohio on October 28, 1960. They eventually moved to Temperance in 1968 where they raised their 5 children. They remained life-long companions until her passing on April 28, 2004. After working at a gas station, Acklin Stamping and Bargain City, "Wheels" worked all of his 30 plus years as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, during which time he competed in and won some local, state and national truck rodeo competitions. He retired as a member of the Teamsters, Local 20 and was an active retiree. Throughout his life, Bill was also known by family, friends, and neighbors as someone they could count on to build or fix just about anything for them. He was most generous with his time and conversation. Bill will be truly missed by many.

He is survived by his loving children, Scott (Dawn) Waganfeald, Amy (Kent) Nanney, Sandy (Paul Crawshaw) Waganfeald, Pam (Ron) Guy and Susan (Aaron) Eidenier; grandchildren, Steven Waganfeald, Megan (Johnny Kirk), Jared and Rachel Nanney, Justin (Bailey) and Jenny Mayhugh, Lindsey (Mark) Elinski, Jessica Guy, Jack, Cooper and Mitchell Eidenier; sister, Barbara Kunkel; sister-in-law, Lynn Waganfeald; and brother-in-law, John Leslie. Bill was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and James Waganfeald; and sister, Sylvia Sanford. His cremated remains will be placed alongside Elaine at his Northern Michigan cottage on Lake Nettie, their favorite together place.

Visitation will be from 3:30 - 7 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman), Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p,m.

Dear Scott, It escaped my memory that your Dad was involved with trucking, a profession near and dear to my heart. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. So sorry for your loss. With deepest empathy, Dave

Sorry to hear about your loss. I was in class with him at Maconber class of 58. I tried to get him to come to one of our High School reunions but it was not to be. I remember having a lot of fun together with him in school. My prayers go out to the family and friends.
