Millard Ford Obituary

Millard Ford, Jr. of Tomball, Texas passed away in the early afternoon of March 14, 2023. Affectionately known as "Sonny" by his immediate family, he was born in his parents railroad boarding house in Tomball, Texas on January 11, 1932 to Millard Ford and Louise Ford who both predeceased him. He is also predeceased by his wife, Shirley Lou Ford (August 24, 1935 - February 1, 2021).

Millard is survived by his brothers, Roy L. Ford, wife Madra and Homer E. Ford, wife Yvonne; his son Terry Ford and his wife Terrie Taylor Ford (grandchildren Alex Taylor Ford and Marc Ford); Mitch K. Ford and his wife Claire A. Damiano/Ford.

Millard spent the majority of his life in Tomball, Texas. After graduating from Tomball High School, he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas for two years studying accounting before being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He and his wife Shirley were stationed in El Paso, Texas and in Seattle, Washington. After honorably being discharged from the Army, Millard came back to Tomball and assisted his father in running "Ford's Chevrolet Service". As a local businessman, he served on the Tomball Rotary Club. He and Shirley traveled the world over from the late 1960's, all throughout the 1970's, and into the early 1980's, from Chevrolet sponsored vacation trips with other dealers. He retired in 1980.

Millard was an avid golfer, starting at thirteen years of age and playing into his early 80's, and was an original founding member of the Tomball Country Club. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and spent many seasons with his local business friends from Tomball on a deer lease in Fredericksburg, Texas. Throughout the late 1970's and 1980's he would regularly take his family and spend Spring Breaks and summers at Horseshoe Bay, outside of Marble Falls, Texas; where he played even more golf. Millard was a lifelong member of the Tomball United Methodist Church. He was a huge football fan and was one of the "Four Horsemen" on the Tomball High School football team.

Mitch, I just ran across your very kind comments on my dad's obit, Mitchell LaGrone. Thanks so much for that. I shared with my mother and siblings. It made Mom's day. Possibly some of my siblings and I were there when Mom and Dad stopped through Tomball. Maybe not. Just read your father's obit. He was clearly a good man. We were blessed with such parents. Take care, Andy LaGrone
