Robert Schaefer Obituary

On Sunday, January 24, 2021, after battling two weeks with COVID-pneumonia, compromised by other health complications, a dedicated servant of God, Robert (Bob) Anthony Schaefer, was called home to begin his glorious life in Heaven, free of pain and rejoicing with the saints. With Blessed Assurance, he was greeted by his parents, fellow family members and many friends. "Well done, good and faithful servant," would be the herald from Heaven as this gentle and faithful man entered his forever home. As a friend of the family shared in a sweet devotion, Bob was as "shrewd as a serpent, and gentle as a dove." His family and friends would all agree as anyone who spent any time with Bob knew he would be honest with you; yet he had such a gentle spirit and a contagious laugh. Being a wise man, with many gifts and talents, Bob shared these talents with many churches during his lifetime as he oversaw the operations and maintenance of their facilities. His nickname "Handy man" truly fit him, as he could fix anything and build anything you needed. His love for music-playing songs by ear on the accordion and keyboard entertained family and friends alike. Sharing a love of sports with his family, Bob spent many hours traveling to various sporting events to cheer on his "favorite" players...He truly was the "biggest fan" in all of his grandkids' lives! Bob-Dad-Grandpa will be missed, but there is such a peace to know we will all see him again one day in Heaven.

Robert (Bob) Anthony Schaefer, born in Bexar County, January 10, 1937, to Stephen F. & Henrietta Schaefer. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda A. (Lindemann) Schaefer. Bob's beloved children are Jolynn McQuary and husband, Austin of Tomball; Scotty Schaefer and wife, Tina of Thorndale; Ronald Wayne (Anne) Schaefer of Bryan; Pam Moore of Taylor; Karen (Louis) Jahn of Hutto; Sharon (Roddy) Dill of Lexington. Bob (Grandpa) was blessed to leave a legacy of love with his grandchildren: Madison, Hunter and Taylor McQuary; Riley and Ashton Schaefer; Stephen (Mandy) Schaefer; Jared (Becky) Schaefer; Matt (Ali) Schaefer; Aaron (Frankie) Schaefer; Louie (Keli) Jahn; Corey (Sarah) Jahn; Joanna Jahn; Kari (Devin) Blevins. Bob Schaefer also had 15 great-grandchildren. Extended family members include: Geneva Lindemann; Sharon Lindemann; Janice & D.A. Swope; Nancy & Glenn Moon; Robert Lindemann and many nieces and nephews.

Robert (Bob) Anthony Schaefer grew up on a family farm in Taylor, Texas and graduated from St. Mary's High School. He served in the Army National Guard in Taylor and worked as Parts Manager at various tractor dealerships before dedicating 12 years as a Maintenance Supervisor at St. Mary's Catholic Church and School. In 2000, Bob and Linda relocated to Tomball, Texas where he was a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church. Over a span of 20 years, he shared his talents as Operations Manager and Project Specialist at Salem Lutheran Church and Windwood Presbyterian. Robert (Bob) Anthony Schaefer- you will be missed by many! Your love for people and sharing God's Word was truly a wonderful gift to this world. Because of your faithful service as "God's Steward and Servant" - He BLESSED YOU with the most sincere doctors, nurses and staff in charge of your care at HCA Tomball Hospital. These "angels" cared for you in your last days like we would have wanted. Despite our inability to be there to hold your hand in those last hours, we know God sent a loving heart to be with you and we know GOD was with you...and He escorted you into Heaven. We will carry on your legacy of love and servanthood! The family appreciates the outpouring of love during this time of loss. Services are pending at Salem Lutheran Church, Tomball. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the following: Salem Lutheran Church, 22601 Lutheran Church Road, Tomball, Texas 77377; Windwood Presbyterian Church, 10555 Spring Cypress Road, Houston, Texas 77070.

Pat and I always referred to Bob as "Brother Bob" and felt he was a treasured member of our extended family. Brother Bob and I started to work together at Salem some 20 years ago. I found he was an amazing "fixer." There was nothing he couldn't repair or put back together. And Bob had such a gentle heart, it was a pleasure to work with him. I later moved onto Windwood Presbyterian. A few years later, I got Brother Bob to come work part time for me fixing all the broken things and installing new items when needed. Bob also kept our 57 acre property looking great! Have no idea how many hours he spent on the mower and how many hours he spent keeping it running! He was such a good steward and blessing to me and Windwood. Pat and I will also treasure the wood items he crafted for us. He designed and built a cover for our stove so we could use it as a counter top for our (large) Thanksgiving dinners. We also treasure the Salem nail cross (from the building that burned down) and our clock. We have prayed for Bob and Linda every night for years. Our hearts are touched that he is now resting at the feet of Jesus. Did I say "resting?" Not hardly!! Brother Bob has a hammer in his hand working in the Lord's wood shop. Hugs to you Linda and family. We will be praying for you. Tommy Thompson
